Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stands as a formidable global health challenge, often advancing to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) with devastating morbidity and mortality. At the central of this progression lies podocyte injury, a critical determinant of glomerular dysfunction. Compound K (CK), a bioactive metabolite derived from ginsenoside, has emerged as a compelling candidate for nephroprotective therapy.

This case study describes a successful nutrition social marketing program in Afghanistan. By building up the domestic soy industry and supply chain, while creating consumer demand for high-protein soy products to combat malnutrition, the campaign rebalanced the market dynamics for this relatively unknown locally grown crop. The campaign included technical assistance to the soy industry and retailers, a consumer media campaign, and community outreach via influencers, government agencies, and events.

Large-scale Phaeocystis globosa blooms in the Beibu Gulf have adversely affected marine ecosystems and the functioning of a nuclear power plant. To understand the formation mechanisms for such large-scale blooms, we examined the P. globosa bloom dynamics in the northern Beibu Gulf from September 2015 to March 2016 in association with changes in phytoplankton community and environmental factors.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have changed the therapeutic landscape for diabetic kidney disease (DKD) patients, but their underlying mechanisms are complicated and not fully understood. Mitochondria-associated endoplasmic reticulum membranes (MAMs), the dynamic contact sites between mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), serve as intracellular platforms important for regulating cellular fate and function. This study explored the roles and mechanisms of SGLT2 inhibitors in regulating MAMs formation in diabetic podocytes.

Deep eutectic solvents (DES) are of significant interest due to their eco-friendly nature and vast applications. Carboxylic-acid-based choline chloride (ChCl) DES are notable for their roles in electrochemical, drug delivery, and biomass processing applications, with efficiency influenced by the ChCl : carboxylic acid ratio. Understanding these mechanisms requires detailed knowledge of their structure.
