Two groups of 20 patients undergoing day case vaginal termination of pregnancy received either methohexitone and alfentanil 7.5 micrograms/kg or methohexitone and fentanyl 1.5 micrograms/kg. Their recovery times and memory function at 1 and 2 hours after surgery were compared. No difference in the recovery of the 2 groups was noted but at 2 hours after operation the alfentanil group showed impairment of memory for new facts compared with pre-operative memory function testing. This was not evident in the fentanyl group. Apart from this finding alfentanil was adjudged to be a suitable agent for day case anaesthesia.

Background: Considering how gendered experiences play a role in the lives of patients with heart failure (HF) is critical in order to understand their experiences, optimise clinical care and reduce health inequalities.
Objectives: The aim of our study was to review how gender is being studied in qualitative research in HF, specifically to (1) analyse how gender is conceptualised and applied in qualitative HF research; and (2) identify methodological opportunities to better understand the gendered experiences of patients with HF.
Eligibility Criteria: We conducted a systematic search of literature, including qualitive or mixed-methods articles focussing on patients' perspectives in HF and using gender as a primary analytical factor, excluding articles published before 2000.

This meta-review provides the first meta-analytic evidence from published meta-analyses examining the effectiveness of acute exercise interventions on cognitive function. A multilevel meta-analysis with a random-effects model and tests of moderators were performed in R. Thirty systematic reviews with meta-analyses (383 unique studies with 18,347 participants) were identified.

Bismuth oxyselenide (BiOSe) stands as a highly promising layered semiconductor with outstanding optical, electrical, and thermal properties. For the practical application of the material toward the devices, growing BiOSe directly on the amorphous substrate at low temperatures (<400 °C) is essential; however, the negatively charged bottom Se layer originating from alternating stacks of Se and [BiO] has hindered this process. In this work, we report the method for synthesizing a BiOSe film on amorphous alumina (AlO) directly at 350 °C by using chemical solution deposition.

Impaired insulin secretion contributes to the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes mellitus through autoimmune destruction of pancreatic β-cells and the pathogenesis of severe forms of type 2 diabetes mellitus through β-cell dedifferentiation and other mechanisms. Replenishment of malfunctioning β-cells via islet transplantation has the potential to induce long-term glycemic control in the body. However, this treatment option cannot widely be implemented in clinical due to healthy islet donor shortage.
