Calculation of response parameters for a neutron long counter instrument.

Health Physics Laboratory, Ontario Power Generation, Whitby, Ontario, Canada, L1N 9E3.

Published: December 2024

The primary goal of this study was to develop a simulation model of a long counter available at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). Using the Monte Carlo N-Particle version 6 (MCNP6) code, the model was used to calculate, as a function of incident energy, the number of counts recorded per source neutron, effective centre, and sensitivity. This study also carried out measurements of the neutron emission rate of and direct neutron flux at 2 m from an in-house Cf neutron source.

Neuroblastoma (NB) is a rare embryonal neuroendocrine tumor that primarily affects children aged 5 years old or younger. In advanced stages, NB requires a multifaceted treatment approach, including a combination of surgery, chemo, and radiation therapy. However, high-risk NB is still associated with poor prognosis, long-term side effects, and a high chance of relapse.

Multicomponent reactions have long been recognized as some of the most versatile tools in organic chemistry, with extensive applications in biomedical science and the pharmaceutical industry. In this study, we explored the potential of the Passerini reaction by designing and synthesizing new low molecular mass gelators that can serve as novel formulations for prolonged anesthesia. These gelators address critical issues like poor solubility, low bioavailability, and short plasma half-life, all of which hinder therapeutic efficacy.

Airborne Escherichia coli bacteria biosynthesize lipids in response to aerosolization stress.

Gram-negative bacteria pose an increased threat to public health because of their ability to evade the effects of many antimicrobials with growing antibiotic resistance globally. One key component of gram-negative bacteria resistance is the functionality and the cells' ability to repair the outer membrane (OM) which acts as a barrier for the cell to the external environment. The biosynthesis of lipids, particularly lipopolysaccharides, or lipooligosaccharides (LPS/LOS) is essential for OM repair.

Our motivation in this paper is twofold. First, we study the geometry of a class of exploration sets, called , which are naturally associated with a 2D vector-valued Gaussian Free Field : . We prove that, somewhat surprisingly, these sets are a.

Introduction: Chronic low back pain (CLBP), or low back pain lasting greater than 12 weeks, is a prevalent condition that profoundly impacts the quality of life in affected individuals. Traditional treatments - such as physical therapy, medications, injections, minimally invasive procedures, and surgery - often prove ineffective in a considerable number of cases, particularly when utilized as singular modalities. Given the complex biopsychosocial nature of CLBP, a multi-modality approach tailored to each patients' unique needs is essential.
