Polycrystalline silicon carbide (SiC) is a highly valuable material with crucial applications across various industries. Despite its benefits, processing this brittle material efficiently and with high quality presents significant challenges. A thorough understanding of the mechanisms involved in processing and removing SiC is essential for optimizing its production. In this study, we investigated the sawing characteristics and material removal mechanisms of polycrystalline silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic using a diamond wire saw. Experiments were conducted with high wire speeds of 30 m/s and a maximum feed rate of 2.0 mm/min. The coarseness value () increased slightly with the feed rate. Changes in the diamond wire during the grinding process and their effects on the grinding surface were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser confocal microscopy, and focused ion beam (FIB)-transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The findings provide insights into the grinding mechanisms. The presence of ductile grinding zones and brittle fracture areas on the ground surface reveals that external forces induce dislocation and amorphization within the grain structure, which are key factors in material removal during grinding.

A 9-week-old male umbrella cockatoo () presented with mandibular prognathism. The rostral rhinothecal tomial length appeared subjectively shorter than the rostral gnathothecal length, which was subjectively rostrally elongated. After an initial orthosis failed, a second orthosis was designed that employed the use of an orthopedic wire anchor in the rostral end of the rhinotheca, leaving the premaxillary bone undisturbed.

This work investigates the sustainable reuse of expanded polystyrene (EPS) waste through a multi-cycle physical recycling process involving dissolution in acetone and subsequent manufacturing via Direct Ink Write (DIW) 3D printing and casting. Morphology and mechanical properties were evaluated as a function of the manufacturing technique and number of dissolution cycles. Morphological analysis revealed that casted specimens better replicated the target geometry, while voids in 3D-printed specimens aligned with the printing direction due to rapid solvent evaporation.

The chemical mechanical polishing/planarization (CMP) is essential for achieving the desired surface quality and planarity required for subsequent layers and processing steps. However, the aggregation of slurry particles caused by abrasive materials can lead to scratches, defects, increased surface roughness, degradation the quality and durability of the finished surface after milling processes during the CMP process. In this study, ceria slurry was prepared using polymer dispersant with zinc salt of ethylene acrylic acid (EAA) copolymer at different contents of 5, 6, and 7 wt% (denoted as D5, D6, and D7) to minimize particle aggregation commonly observed in CMP slurries.

Hemp fibers, recognized for their breathability, specific strength, and ultraviolet resistance, are widely utilized in textile manufacturing and composite materials. Bio-degumming is a promising alternative technology to traditional chemical degumming that can be used to produce hemp fibers due to its eco-friendly nature. However, its lower efficiency has hindered its widespread adoption.

Water pollution is a major global issue, and antibiotic drugs released into aquatic environments by the pharmaceutical industry, such as ciprofloxacin, have negative consequences on both human health and the ecosystem. In this study, the performance of PVA as a polymer ligand for ciprofloxacin (CPFX) removal is evaluated through polymer-enhanced ultrafiltration using a novel composite PVC-ZnO membrane. The initial concentration of the ciprofloxacin solution, pH, ionic strength, ideal polymer concentration, duration, and maximum retention capacity were among the factors that were examined.
