The poor properties of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) and recycled coarse aggregate concrete (RCAC) are considered key constraints hindering the reuse of this waste resource in marine engineering. The CO-based accelerated carbonation method, which utilizes the alkali aggregate properties of RCA to achieve CO uptake and sequestration while significantly enhancing its properties, has attracted widespread attention. However, the degree of improvement in the properties of RCA under different initial moisture conditions (IMCs) and aggregate particle sizes (APSs) after CO-accelerated carbonation remains unclear. Moreover, the quantitative effect of carbonated recycled coarse aggregate (CRCA), which is obtained from RCA samples with the optimal initial moisture conditions, on the improvement of RCAC under optimal accelerated carbonation modification conditions still needs to be studied in depth. For this investigation, a CO-accelerated carbonation experiment was carried out on RCA samples with different IMCs and APSs, and the variations in the properties of RCA with respect to its IMC and APS were assessed. The degree of accelerated carbonation modification of RCA under different IMCs and APSs was quantified, and the optimal initial moisture conditions for enhancing the properties of the RCA were confirmed. By preparing concrete specimens based on the natural coarse aggregate, RCA, and CRCA with the best initial moisture conditions (considering the same concrete-water proportion), the effect of CRCA on the workability, mechanical properties, and durability of the corresponding concrete specimen was determined. The findings of this study can be used to effectively promote the sustainable development of marine science and engineering in the future and contribute to global dual-carbon goals, which are of great practical significance and scientific value.

Many population surveys do not provide information on respondents' residential addresses, instead offering coarse geographies like zip code or higher aggregations. However, fine resolution geography can be beneficial for characterizing neighbourhoods, especially for relatively rare populations such as immigrants. One way to obtain such information is to link survey records to records in auxiliary databases that include residential addresses by matching on variables common to both files.

Despite the intrinsic charge heterogeneity of proteins plays a crucial role in the liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) of a broad variety of protein systems, our understanding of the effects of their electrostatic anisotropy is still in its early stages. We approach this issue by means of a coarse-grained model based on a robust mean-field description that extends the DLVO theory to non-uniformly charged particles. We numerically investigate the effect of surface charge patchiness and net particle charge on varying these features independently and with the use of a few parameters only.

Self-assembly of nanoparticles (NPs) in solution has garnered tremendous attention among researchers because of their electrical, chemical, and optoelectronic properties at the macroscale with potential applications in bio-imaging, bio-medicine, and therapeutics. Control of size, shape, and composition at the nanoscale is important in tuning the material's bulk properties. The grafting of NPs with polymers enables us to tune such bulk material properties at the nano level by controlling their assemblies, especially in solutions.

Theories predicted that shear promotes desorption, but due to the presence of factors such as aggregation effects, it is difficult to observe how shear influences the adsorption and desorption of individual protein molecules. In this study, we employed high-throughput single-molecule tracking and molecular dynamics simulations to investigate how shear flow affects the adsorption kinetics of plasma proteins (including human serum albumin, immunoglobulin G, and fibrinogen) at solid-liquid interfaces. Over the studied shear rate range of 0 - 10 s, shear stress did not trigger the protein desorption.

In order to study the effect of the crushing process on the fine separation of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) and the mechanical properties of cement-stabilised aggregate mixed with RAP, four crushing processes, namely small mesh hammer crushing, hammer crushing, jaw crushing, and double roller crushing, were used to separate the aggregate from asphalt in RAP materials. The effect of crushing on the grading characteristics and agglomeration condition of RAP material was investigated. RAP cement-stabilised aggregates were prepared and analysed for their mechanical properties and micro-morphology using RAP materials obtained from fine separation.
