Atmospheric elevated CO concentration ([CO]) decreases plant nitrogen (N) concentration while increasing water use efficiency (WUE), fertigation increases crop nutrition and WUE in crop; yet the interactive effects of [CO] coupled with two N-fertigation levels during deficit irrigation on plant gas exchange, root morphology and WUE remain largely elusive. The objective of this study was to explore the physiological and growth responses of ambient [CO] ([CO], 400 ppm) and [CO] (800 ppm) tomato plant exposed to two N-fertigation regimes: (1) full irrigation during N-fertigation (FIN); (2) deficit irrigation during N-fertigation (DIN) under two N fertilizer levels (reduced N (N1, 0.5 g pot) and adequate N (N2, 1.0 g pot). The results indicated that [CO] associated with DIN regime induced the lower N2 plant water use (7.28 L plant), maintained leaf water potential (-5.07 MPa) and hydraulic conductivity (0.49 mol m s MPa), greater tomato growth in terms of leaf area (7152.75 cm), specific leaf area (223.61 cm g), stem and total dry matter (19.54 g and 55.48 g). Specific root length and specific root surface area were increased under N1 fertilization, and root tissue density was promoted in both [CO] and DIN environments. Moreover, a smaller and denser leaf stomata (4.96 µm and 5.37 mm) of N1 plant was obtained at [CO] integrated with DIN strategy. Meanwhile, this combination would simultaneously reduce stomatal conductance (0.13 mol m s) and transpiration rate (1.91 mmol m s), enhance leaf ABA concentration (133.05 ng g FW), contributing to an improvement in WUE from stomatal to whole-plant scale under each N level, especially for applying N1 fertilization (125.95 µmol mol, 8.41 µmol mmol and 7.15 g L). These findings provide valuable information to optimize water and nitrogen fertilizer management and improve plant water use efficiency, responding to the potential resource-limited and CO-enriched scenario.

Herein, we report an efficient [Ru(η-CH)Cl] catalyzed oxidative C-H alkenylation of benzoic acid in the green solvent water. A regioselective olefination of benzoic acid with functionalized alkenes like styrene and acrylate was established at a very mild condition of 60 °C temperature and in an aqueous medium. In contrast to the cyclization of the carboxylic group, a selective -olefination product of benzoic acid was observed with the acrylate.

Solar-driven interfacial evaporation is one of the most attractive approaches to addressing the global freshwater shortage. However, achieving an integrated high evaporation rate, salt harvesting, and multifunctionality in evaporator is still a crucial challenge. Here, a novel composite membrane with biomimetic micro-nanostructured superhydrophobic surface is designed via ultrafast laser etching technology.

Microplastics (MPs) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are ubiquitous contaminants in environments, yet their co-occurrence and interactions remain insufficiently understood. In this study, we confirmed the concurrent presence of MPs and PFASs and their distinct distribution patterns in a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) through a comprehensive sampling and analysis effort. Semiconductor-metal hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) are promising materials for photocatalytic applications, such as water splitting for green hydrogen generation. While most studies have focused on Cd containing HNPs, the realization of actual applications will require environmentally compatible systems. Using heavy-metal free ZnSe-Au HNPs as a model, we investigate the dependence of their functionality and efficiency on the cocatalyst metal domain characteristics ranging from the single-atom catalyst (SAC) regime to metal-tipped systems.

Water-soluble metal-organic cages (WSMOCs) show high potential as antitumor agents, while the targeted functionalization of WSMOCs toward enhanced antitumor performances is a challenging task. Herein, WSMOCs were functionalized with donor-acceptor (D-A) systems for synergistic photothermal-chemotherapy. Octahedral [ML] cages based on a 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridine-4-yl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPT) acceptor and M(bpy) (M = Pd for , Pt for ) nodes were functionalized with tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) to form and .
