fruit is a valuable and historically significant medicinal plant with anti-hypertension and anti-diabetes. We identified a toxic component, Febrifugin, from the edible part of the nut following zebrafish toxicity-guided isolation. Febrifugin is a mexicanolide-type limonoid compound. The toxic factor induced acute toxicity in zebrafish, including yolk sac edema and pericardial edema, reduced body length, decreased melanin deposition, and presented acute skeletal developmental issues. Further exploration of the acute toxicity mechanism through metabolomics revealed that Febrifugin caused significant changes in 13 metabolites in zebrafish larvae, which are involved in the pentose phosphate, tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, and amino acid biosynthesis. The bioassay of oxidative stress capacity and qRT-PCR measurement showed that the compound significantly affected the gene in the pentose phosphate pathway and the mRNA expression of , , , and genes in the TCA cycle, leading to reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and a notable decrease in glutathione (GSH) activity in zebrafish. These findings provide a basis for the rational use of as a medicinal plant and raise awareness of the safety of medicinal plants.

Cashew nut testa, a by-product of cashew nut processing, is abundant in phenolic compounds and exhibits strong antioxidant properties, making it a potential additive for enhancing the antioxidant properties of biodegradable films used in food packaging. This study explores the fabrication of biodegradable chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol films incorporating varying concentrations of cashew nut testa extract (CNTE; 0, 1, 2 and 3% v/v) and evaluates their physical, structural, mechanical, optical and antioxidant properties. The results demonstrate that increasing extract concentration generally increased the thickness, tensile strength, Young's modulus, thermal stability and antioxidant capacity of the films, while reducing the moisture content, swelling degree, elongation at break, and light transmittance.

A contamination analysis was conducted on the soil and crops in the Liu Jia Dian gold mining area of the Pinggu District, Beijing, utilizing the contents and seven-step forms of heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Cr, Pb, and As) in soil and the heavy metal contents in crops at the same location. An assessment of ecological risk caused by heavy metal contamination in the soil and crops was carried out using the enrichment coefficient method and the risk assessment coding method. The study investigated the process of heavy metal absorption and enrichment in the soil-crop system, aiming to establish a scientific foundation for preventing and controlling soil pollution, as well as ensuring the safety of edible crops in the study area.
