Dual carbon metabolisms and the synergism contribute to improving nutrient recovery under mixotrophy. However, how synergism influences nutrient recovery has yet to be understood, which is revealed in the current study. Due to dual carbon metabolisms and synergism, the PO-P recovery rate under mixotrophy reached 0.34 mg L h. Due to the internal cycling of respiratory CO, the mutualistic index (MI) in terms of synergism helped Scenedesmus accumulate 27.49 % more biomass under mixotrophy than sum of the two controls. In contrast, MI contributed 0.26 g L d to the total modeled mixotrophic productivity of 1.15 g L d. To total modeled PO-P recovery, mixotrophic-auto, and mixotrophic-hetero shares were 42 % and 58 %. The synergism under mixotrophy contributed 20 % in total PO-P recovery. The PO-P recovery rate under mixotrophywas comparable to other biological P removal methods. These findings emphasize the potential of synergism in improving productivityand promoting resource recovery for sustainable wastewater treatment.

Goats have been used as animal models in research, and the need for achieving safer anesthesia for research or surgical intervention is gaining much attention. The objective of this study was to evaluate intraoperative effects and the immediate postoperative analgesia of nalbuphine-ketamine regimen in goats. Twenty clinically healthy adult female crossbred goats weighing 14 ± 2 kg were allocated randomly into each of two equally sized groups.

Background: The authors present a case of a patient with an extremely rare lung tumor in a child.

Case: A 9-year-old girl with a 3-day history of dyspnea and stabbing pain in the xiphoid region, irradiating to the area under the left costal margin, both in rest and in physical activities. She was primarily examined in a regional hospital with bounded homogenous focus of the superior right lung lobe on the X-ray.

Optimal Handling of the Patella in Tourniquet-Free Total Knee Arthroplasty: Eversion or Lateral Retraction?

Orthop Surg

December 2020

Department of Orthopaedics, West China Hospital/West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Objective: To explore the optimal handling of the patella during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) without the intraoperative application of a tourniquet.

Methods: A total of 104 patients undergoing primary unilateral TKA without the intraoperative use of tourniquets from December 2018 to March 2019 in our center were included in this prospective randomized double-blinded study, including 42 men and 62 women with a mean age of 66.3 ± 7.

Background: Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) generally yields acceptable clinical results. Hyaluronic acid (HA), a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide, is present in the extracellular matrix of soft connective tissue and synovial fluid, and its injection is known to significantly improve pain and clinical outcomes after rotator cuff injury. Some studies have described the role of HA injections as conservative therapy for rotator cuff tears.

Post-exertional malaise and delayed recovery are hallmark symptoms of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Studies on repeated cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) show that previous exercise negatively affects oxygen uptake (VO ) and power output (PO) in ME/CFS. Whether this affects arterial lactate concentrations ([La ]) is unknown.
