AI Article Synopsis

  • * Recent findings indicate that this bacteria has a preference for acquiring fatty acids from hosts rather than synthesizing them itself, leading to increased lipid levels in infected mice.
  • * Although there are links between fatty acid uptake and certain bacterial processes, such as vesicle production, these do not affect the bacteria's overall structure or susceptibility to antibiotics, highlighting a complex relationship between bacterial survival strategies and host factors, particularly in obese individuals.

Article Abstract

is consistently ranked among the most problematic multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens in healthcare systems. Developing novel treatments requires a better understanding of its interaction with the host environment. Although bacteria can synthesize fatty acids, emerging findings suggest a potential preference for their acquisition from the host. Fatty acid profiling of mice revealed a dramatic increase in the level of hepatic lipids during . infection. The . fatty acid composition and uptake capabilities were found to be largely clonally conserved. Correlations between fatty acid uptake, outer membrane vesicle production, and cell permeability were observed, but this did not translate to alterations in cell morphology, capsule production, or antimicrobial susceptibility. Importantly, hyper-capsulation did not prevent the uptake of hydrophobic fatty acids. The uptake of a saturated fatty acid by hypervirulent . isolate may provide insights into the clinical association of . infections with hyperlipidemic and/or obese individuals.

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of the rice bean (Vigna umbellata).

BMC Plant Biol

December 2024

Beijing Key Laboratory of Agricultural Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Beijing, 100097, China.

Background: Rice bean (Vigna umbellata), an underrated legume crop, demonstrates strong adaptability to poor soil fertility and has significant potential to enhance global food security. It is valuable both as a vegetable and fodder crop due to its high protein content, essential fatty acids, and micronutrients. Despite the sequencing of a high-quality genome of rice bean, its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence has not yet been reported.

Targeting alpha-glucosidase (maltase-glucoamylase [MGAM] and sucrase-isomaltase [SI]) under diabetes conditions is important to overcome hyperglycemia. Moreover, it is necessary to mitigate hyperglycemia-mediated oxidative stress to evade the progression of diabetes-associated secondary complications. Hence, in the present study, under-explored Nyctanthes arbor-tristis flowers (NAFs) were studied for inhibition of alpha-glucosidase activities.

Introduction: The gut microbiome, allegedly involved in both healthy homeostasis and development of disease, is found to be associated with several types of cancer. Short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), important metabolites derived from the gut microbiota, are described to carry both protective and promoting features in cancer development. Limited research exists on neuroendocrine tumors (NET) and their association with microbiota derived SCFAs.

Polyketide Synthase Acyltransferase Domain Swapping for Enhanced EPA Recognition and Efficient Coproduction of EPA and DHA in sp.

J Agric Food Chem

December 2024

School of Food Science and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Nanjing Normal University, 2 Xuelin Road, Qixia District, Nanjing 210023, China.

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are important polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) used as nutritional supplements. The natural EPA content in sp. is low, and traditional strategies to increase EPA levels often compromise DHA content or lipid accumulation, hindering industrial coproduction.
