A novel series of Zn--AB porphyrins and benzoporphyrins bearing phenyl and thiophene-based -substituents was successfully synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. Systematic comparison among the compounds in this series, together with the corresponding A analogs previously studied by our group, led to the understanding of the effects of π-conjugated system extension of a porphyrin core through β-fused rings, replacement of the phenyl with the thiophene-based -groups, and introduction of additional thiophene rings on thienyl substituents on photophysical and electrochemical properties. Oxidative electropolymerization through bithiophenyl units of both A and -AB analogs was achieved, resulting in porphyrin- and benzoporphyrin-oligothiophene conjugated polymers, which were characterized by cyclic voltammetry and absorption spectrophotometry. Preliminary studies on catalytic performance toward electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO) was described herein to demonstrate the potential of the selected compounds for serving as homogeneous and heterogeneous electrocatalysts for the conversion of CO to carbon monoxide (CO).

In the fast-paced quest for early cancer detection, noninvasive screening techniques have emerged as game-changers, offering simple and accessible avenues for precession diagnostics. In line with this, our study highlights the potential of silver nanoparticle-decorated titanium carbide MXene nanosheets (TiC_AgNPs) as an electroactive interface for the noninvasive diagnosis of oral carcinoma based on the prevalence of the salivary biomarker, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). An in situ reduction was utilized to synthesize the TiC_AgNPs nanohybrid, wherein TiC acts as the reducing agent, and the resulting nanohybrid was subjected to various characterization techniques to examine the optical, structural, and morphological attributes.

High-throughput experimentation (HTE) has accelerated academic and industrial chemical research in reaction development and drug discovery and has been broadly applied in many domains of organic chemistry. However, application of HTE in electrosynthesis-an enabling tool for chemical synthesis-has been limited by a dearth of suitable standardized reactors. Here we report the development of microelectronic devices, which are produced using standard nanofabrication techniques, to enable wireless electrosynthesis on the microlitre scale.

For batteries to function effectively all active material must be accessible requiring both electron and ion transport to each particle. A common approach to generating the needed conductive network is the addition of carbon. An alternative approach is the electrochemically induced formation of conductive reaction products generated with intimate contact to the active material.

The efficiency of ultrafiltration (UF) of acidified skim milk (SM) is impaired by protein aggregation and mineral scaling. The aim of this study is to assess the potential of acidification by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM), in comparison with citric acid (CA), prior to the UF process on filtration performance, fouling and composition of the protein concentrates. Electro-acidification, facilitated by a water-splitting reaction, decreased the pH of milk to ∼ 5.

Electrochemical nitrite (NO) is a promising technology for NO removal and a sustainable method for generating valuable ammonia (NH), but this process is intricate and generates other byproducts. In this work, we propose a facile and low-cost method for the preparation of a CuMoO nanosheet array, which can serve as an efficient electrocatalyst for the reduction of NO to NH. The morphology of CuMoO can be adjusted by controlling the synthesis conditions.
