Objectives: Exposure of gingival epithelial cells to butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid produced by dental plaque bacteria, cause cell death and subsequent damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) release. We investigated the effects of curcumin, a polyphenol extracted from turmeric, on butyrate-induced human gingival epithelial Ca9-22 cell death and DAMP release.
Methods: Ca9-22 cells were pretreated with curcumin before butyrate exposure.

Introduction: Opportunistic infections (IO) are infections of microbiota (fungi, viruses, bacteria, or parasites) that generally do not cause disease but turn into pathogens when the body's defense system is compromised. This can be triggered by various factors, one of which is due to a weakened immune system due to Diabetes Mellitus (DM), which increases the occurrence of opportunistic infections, especially in the oral cavity. Fungal (oral candidiasis) and viral (recurrent intraoral herpes) infections can occur in the oral cavity of DM patients.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of tinidazole (TNZ) combined with minocycline (MINO) on therapeutic effectiveness, bone resorption, and inflammation in peri-implantitis (PI).
Methods: This retrospective study included 96 PI patients admitted between January 2023 and February 2024. Patients were divided into a control group (n = 46) treated with MINO and a research group (n = 50) treated with TNZ plus MINO.

Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral lichenoid lesions (OLL) are common chronic inflammatory diseases associated with malignant transformation. Risk factors associated with malignant transformation of OLP and OLL are not well defined.
Methods: A retrospective chart review assessed risk factors for progression of OLP and OLL to oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) or oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) at a tertiary care centre in Toronto, Canada.

Background Toothbrush manufacturers commonly use bristle materials such as nylon, polybutylene terephthalate, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, boar hair, bamboo, carbon fiber, silicone, polylactic acid, or their modifications such as Curen. Nylon filaments have long been demonstrated to be durable and are widely used, but not much is known regarding the performance of Curen filaments compared to nylon filaments. This in vitro study compared the stiffness, abrasion potential, abrasion resistance, and bristle surface changes of Curen and nylon filaments.
