Pyroelectric (PE) detection technologies have attracted extensive attention due to the cooling-free, bias-free, and broadband properties. However, the PE signals are generated by the continuous energy conversion processes from light, heat, to electricity, normally leading to very slow response speeds. Herein, we design and fabricate a PE detector which shows extremely fast response in near-infrared (NIR) band by combining with the inhomogeneous plasmonic metasurface. The plasmonic effect dramatically accelerates the light-heat conversion process, unprecedentedly improving the NIR response speed by 2-4 orders of magnitude to 22 μs, faster than any reported infrared (IR) PE detector. We also innovatively introduce the concept of time resolution into the field of PE detection, which represents the detector's ability to distinguish multiple fast-moving targets. Furthermore, the spatially inhomogeneous design overcomes the traditional narrowband constraint of plasmonic systems and thus ensures a wideband response from visible to NIR. This study provides a promising approach to develop next-generation IR PE detectors with ultrafast and broadband responses.

Tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) has been extensively employed to investigate the light-matter interaction at the nanoscale. However, the current TERS strategies lack the ability to excite the low-background inhomogeneous electromagnetic field with significant enhancement of electric field, electric field gradient, and optomagnetic field, simultaneously. To overcome this, we developed a fiber vector light-field-based TERS strategy aimed at exploring the multipole Raman scattering processes of molecules.

Tightly confined plasmons in metal nanogaps are highly sensitive to surface inhomogeneities and defects due to the nanoscale optical confinement, but tracking and monitoring their location is hard. Here, we probe a 1-D extended nanocavity using a plasmonic silver nanowire (AgNW) on mirror geometry. Morphological changes inside the nanocavity are induced locally using optical excitation and probed locally through simultaneous measurements of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and dark-field spectroscopy.

The metamaterial with artificial synthetic gauge field has been proved as an excellent platform to manipulate the transport of the electromagnetic wave. Here we propose an inhomogeneous spoof surface plasmonic metasurface to construct an in-plane pseudo-magnetic field, which is generated by engineering the gradient variation of the opened Dirac cone corresponding to spatially varying mass term. The chiral zeroth-order Landau level is induced by the strong pseudo-magnetic field.

This paper is aimed at devising a new optical theorem formulation for the 3-D plane-wave scattering from an infinite resistive plane and, more generally, a thin dielectric plate with a finite-size inhomogeneity shaped as a hollow or sealed hole. This formulation is further modified to cover the case of the plane guided wave scattering from the same inhomogeneity. For the lossless plane, the diffracted field combines a classical outgoing spherical wave, satisfying the Silver-Muller radiation condition, with an outgoing cylindrical guided wave supported by the plane; the power absorbed in the lossy filling is finite.
