Objectives: To investigate the diagnostic value of iTrace visual function analyzer, Pentacam 3D anterior segment analysis system and Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS III) in assessing lens opacity in patients with age-related cataract (ARC).

Methods: A total of 129 patients with ARC admitted to Anonymized from May 2019 to April 2021 were selected as the research objects. The degree of lens opacity was evaluated by LOCS III classification, iTrace and anterior segment analysis.

Results: The Pentacam nucleus staging (PNS) grade was strongly correlated with nuclear color (NC) ( = 0.537,  0.05) and moderately correlated with nuclear opalescence (NO) ( = 0.473,  0.05). The integrated density (IntDen) in 3-mm nuclear region was strongly correlated with NC ( = 0.548,  0.05) and NO ( = 0.539,  0.05). The dysfunctional lens index (DLI) in 3-mm area was negatively correlated with NC (=-0.252,  0.05), NO (=-0.239,  0.05) and posterior subcapsular cataract (=-0.271,  0.05). PNS was weakly negatively correlated with the DLI in 3-mm area (=-0.219,  0.05), and IntDen in 3-mm core area was weakly negatively correlated with the DLI in 3-mm area (=-0.291,  0.05).

Conclusion: A combination of iTrace, anterior segment analysis and LOCS III may be beneficial in objectively assessing the opacity of different regions of the lens.

Purpose: This study evaluated the impact of phacoemulsification cataract surgery (PE) on anatomical and functional parameters, as well as the regimen and frequency of anti-VEGF injections in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) over a long-term period (up to 3 years).

Material And Methods: The study included 117 patients (117 eyes) diagnosed with nAMD and cataract, graded by LOCS: LOCS I (=56; 47.9%), LOCS II (=57; 48.

Purepose: The intraoperative femtosecond laser time, Cumulative Dissipated Energy (CDE), Effective Phacoemulsification time (EPT), and intraoperative fluid perfusion volume were compared under different model fragmentation modes using Catalys femtosecond laser system.

Methods: This was a single-center, prospective, randomized controlled study. A total of 120 eyes who underwent femtosecond laser-assisted cataract phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation in Xiamen Eye Center affiliated to Xiamen University from September 2022 to March 2023 were randomly divided into 4 groups to undergo pre-nucleus splitting in different ways: Group 1: six-split, Group 2: eight-split, Group 3: six-split + gridded softening, and Group 4: eight-split + gridded softening.

Article Synopsis
  • Sun exposure and UV radiation are linked to skin conditions like cutaneous melanoma (CM) and eye issues such as cataracts, with a study conducted on the Lithuanian population to explore this relationship.
  • A case-control study involving 180 CM patients and 182 healthy controls assessed the correlation between CM, cataracts, and common melanocytic nevi (CMNs) through dermatological and ophthalmic exams.
  • Results indicated that higher grades of cataracts significantly increased the risk of CM, with specific locations of CMNs also correlating with higher risk levels for developing CM.

Objective: The present study sought to evaluate the relationship between age-related cataracts, a prevalent ocular condition among the elderly, and the occurrence of depressive symptoms within a cohort of Chinese adults residing in Anhui, China.

Methods: A survey involving 252 Chinese individuals aged 65 years and older was conducted at Lu'an People's Hospital. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) consisting of 17 items, while age-related cataracts were clinically classified according to the Lens Opacities Classification System (LOCS) III.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardioneuroablation (CNA) is a therapy for conditions like vasovagal syncope, atrioventricular block, and sinus node dysfunction, but its effectiveness for patients over 50 is unclear.
  • In a study with 50 patients divided into two age groups (under 50 vs. 50 and above), there was no significant difference in survival rates without syncope or the need for pacemakers between the groups after a median follow-up of 17 months.
  • Older patients had lower heart rate post-procedure compared to younger patients, but both age groups showed similar improvements in quality of life and a decrease in heart rate variability.
