Escalating concerns over waste management and the need for sustainable energy have prompted innovative solutions at the nexus of resource recycling and self-powered applications. This study presents a novel approach to recycling super-absorbing polymer (SAP) gels from waste diapers and discarded baking sheets to fabricate a diaper waste-based triboelectric nanogenerator (DW-TENG). The DW-TENG, resembling a maraca, demonstrated superior electrical performance with a voltage output of 110 V, a current of 9 μA, and a power of 259.15 μW. It was successfully integrated into a self-powered weather station for real-time monitoring of wind speed, humidity, and temperature. This research underscores the dual benefits of waste management and energy generation, representing a promising step toward a circular and sustainable future.

The accumulation of disposable face masks (DFMs) has become a significant threat to the environment due to extensive use during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this research, we investigated the degradation of DFMs after their disposal in landfills. We replicated the potential degradation process of DFMs, including exposure to sunlight before subjecting them to synthetic landfill leachate (LL).

Detrimental effects of terminal heat stress could be mitigated by exogenous application of synthetic compounds by preserving cell membrane integrity and protecting against oxidative damage. A field experiment was conducted to test the application of seven synthetic compounds on wheat growth traits: (1) thiourea (20 mM and 40mM); (2) potassium nitrate (1% and 2%); (3) sodium nitroprusside (400 μg mL-1 and 800μg mL-1 ); (4) dithiothreitol (25 ppm and 50ppm); (5) salicylic acid (100 ppm and 200ppm); (6) thioglycolic acid (200 ppm and 500ppm); and (7) putrescine (4 mM and 6mM). These compounds were applied at the anthesis and grain-filling stages to enhance physio-biochemical traits and yield attributes of wheat (Triticum aestivum ) cvs GW-11 and GW-496 under terminal heat stress.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP), a high mountain area prone to destructive rainstorm hazards and inducing natural disasters, underscores the importance of developing precipitation intensity-duration-frequency (IDF) curves for estimating extreme precipitation characteristics. Here we introduce the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Precipitation Intensity-Duration-Frequency Curves (QTPPIDFC) dataset, the first gridded dataset tailored for estimating extreme precipitation characteristics in QTP. The generalized extreme value distribution is chosen to fit the annual maximum precipitation samples at 203 weather stations, based on which the at-site IDF curves are estimated; then, principal component analysis is done to identify the southeast-northwest spatial pattern of at-site IDF curves, and its first principal component gives a 96% explained variance; finally, spatial interpolation is done to estimate gridded IDF curves by using the random forest model with geographical and climatic variables as predictors.

Ships generate large amounts of air pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide (NO) that profoundly impacts air quality and poses serious threats to human health. It is crucial to understand the dynamics and drivers of ship-induced NO concentrations in China to support the prevention and control of fine particulate matter (PM) and ozone (O) pollution. This study built Generalized Additive Models (GAMs) to reveal the nonlinear effects of meteorological factors and ship emissions on ship-induced NO concentrations based on the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) satellite data, AIS based emission model and meteorological data.

Land use and land cover (LULC) changes are crucial in influencing regional climate patterns and environmental dynamics. However, the long-term impacts of these changes on climate variability in the Bilate River Basin remain poorly understood. This study examines the spatiotemporal changes in LULC and their influence on climate variability in the Bilate River Basin, Ethiopia, over the period from 1994 to 2024.
