Objective: Sierra Leone, a country where onchocerciasis is endemic in 14 of the 16 districts, was the focus of our investigation. Despite 17 rounds of annual ivermectin treatment since 2005, a report circulated by a local politician indicated an increase in cases of suspected onchocerciasis-related vision impairment in two villages (Mangobo and Petifu) in Tonkolili district. In response, the National Neglected Tropical Disease Program conducted a comprehensive investigation.

1. Analysis of co-occurrence data with traditional indices has led to many problems such as sensitivity of the indices to prevalence and the same value representing either a strong positive or strong negative association across different datasets. In our recent study (Mainali et al 2022), we revealed the source of the problems that make the traditional indices fundamentally flawed and unreliable-namely that the indices in common use have no target of estimation quantifying degree of association in the non-null case-and we further developed a novel parameter of association, alpha, with complete formulation of the null distribution for estimating the mechanism of affinity.

Purpose: Total marrow (lymph-node) irradiation (TMI/TMLI) is a radiotherapy technique irradiating the whole body of a patient. The limited couch travel range in modern linacs (130-150 cm) forces to split the TMI/TMLI delivery into two plans with opposite orientation. A dedicated field junction is necessary to achieve satisfactory target coverage in the overlapping region of the two plans.

In order to promote the digital dissemination and preservation of Chinese intangible cultural heritage, this work constructs a digital platform for its transmission. The platform integrates a range of advanced technologies, including the Densely Connected Convolutional Networks - Bottleneck and Compression model, a notable convolutional neural network, along with natural language processing algorithms, generative adversarial network algorithms, and neural collaborative filtering algorithms. The platform is validated with 224,055 publicly archived valid data records, ensuring its effectiveness and reliability.

Despite the recent surge of viral metagenomic studies, it remains a significant challenge to recover complete virus genomes from metagenomic data. The majority of viral contigs generated from de novo assembly programs are highly fragmented, presenting significant challenges to downstream analysis and inference. To address this issue, we have developed Virseqimprover, a computational pipeline that can extend assembled contigs to complete or nearly complete genomes while maintaining extension quality.
