Sodium batteries are considered a promising candidate for large-scale grid storage at tropical climate zone, and solid-state sodium metal batteries have a strong proposition as high energy density battery. The main challenge is to develop ultra-pure solid-state ceramic electrolyte and compatible metal interface. Here, a scalable and energy-efficient synthesis strategy of sodium (Na) Super Ionic CONductor, NaZrSiPO (x = 2, NZSP) solid electrolyte, has been introduced with the complete removal of unreacted zirconium oxide (ZrO) impurities. Additionally, the reaction mechanism for the formation of pure phase NZSP is reported for the first time. The NZSP prepared by utilizing the Zr precursor, i.e., tetragonal zirconium oxide (t-ZrO) derived from the Zr(OH) gets quickly and completely consumed in the synthesis process leaving no unreacted monoclinic ZrO impurities. The synthesis process only needs a minimum stay of 4 h, which is three times less than the conventional synthesis method. The elimination of ZrO impurities results in a 2.5-fold reduction in grain boundary resistivity, showcasing a total ionic conductivity of 1.75 mS cm at room temperature and a relative density of 98%. The prepared electrolyte demonstrates remarkable resistance to dendrite formation, as evidenced by a high critical current density value of 1.4 mA cm.

This research investigates the mechanical activation of kaolin as a supplementary cementitious material at the laboratory scale, aiming to optimize milling parameters using the response surface methodology. The study evaluated the effects of rotation speed and milling time on the amorphous phase content, the reduction in crystalline kaolinite, and impurity incorporation into the activated clay through the Rietveld method. The results demonstrated that adjusting milling parameters effectively enhanced clay activation, which is crucial for its use in low-carbon cements.

An extensive dataset consisting of adsorption energies of pernicious impurities present in biomass upgrading processes on common catalysts and support materials has been generated. This work aims to inform catalyst and process development for the conversion of biomass-derived feedstocks to fuels and chemicals. A high-throughput workflow was developed to execute density functional theory calculations for a diverse set of atomic (Al, B, Ca, Cl, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, N, Na, P, S, Si, Zn) and molecular (COS, HS, HCl, HCN, KO, KCl, NH) species on 35 unique surfaces for transition-metal (Ag, Au, Co, Cu, Fe, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, Re, Rh, Ru) and metal-oxide (AlO, MgO, anatase-TiO, rutile-TiO, ZnO, ZrO) catalysts and supports.

Electrochemical oscillation during galvanostatic charging and discharging of Zr-modified LiTiO in Li-ion batteries.

The electrochemical oscillation in Li-ion batteries has been reported for two-phase electrode materials of LiTiO and LiCrTiO, which is originated from the group-by-group phase transition in a multi-particle electrode. For both LiTiO and LiCrTiO, the electrochemical oscillation exhibits usually during charging, while rarely for discharging. Herein, a series of Zr-modified LiTiO samples are prepared by using the spray-drying combined with high-temperature sintering method, and the electrochemical oscillation is observed during not only the charging process, but also the discharging process, which gradually grows up and then disappears by increasing the Li content.

Area-selective atomic layer deposition (AS-ALD), which provides a bottom-up nanofabrication method with atomic-scale precision, has attracted a great deal of attention as a means to alleviate the problems associated with conventional top-down patterning. In this study, we report a methodology for achieving selective deposition of high- dielectrics by surface modification through vapor-phase functionalization of octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA) inhibitor molecules accompanied by post-surface treatment. A comparative evaluation of deposition selectivity of ZrO thin films deposited with the O and O reactants was performed on SiO, TiN, and W substrates, and we confirmed that high enough deposition selectivity over 10 nm can be achieved even after 200 cycles of ALD with the O reactant.
