Unusual presentation of esophageal tuberculosis: a case study.

BMC Infect Dis

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Treatment Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University, 368 Yehai Road, Haikou, 570311, China.

Background: Esophageal ulcers can arise not only from malignant lesions but also from benign diseases, such as tuberculosis. These ulcers may mimic the radiological features of esophageal malignancy or tuberculosis on PET/CT, leading to diagnostic challenges.

Case Presentation: A 59-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a month-long history of progressive painful swallowing, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of [Ga]-Ga-FAPI-46 and [F]-FDG PET/CT imaging in detecting lesions and staging breast cancer.
  • Twelve female breast cancer patients underwent both imaging tests, revealing that while both methods had similar overall lesion detection rates and disease staging, [Ga]-Ga-FAPI-46 indicated an improved tumor-to-background ratio and showed better uptake in certain areas like the brain and lymph nodes for some patients.
  • The preliminary findings suggest that [Ga]-Ga-FAPI-46 may offer advantages in identifying tumors due to its lower uptake in healthy organs, potentially leading to more effective diagnostic applications in the future.

B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoblastic Lymphoma Mimicking Fibrosing Mediastinitis: A Case Report and Diagnostic Insight.

Am J Case Rep

December 2024

Division of Respirology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, and Neurology, Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Kiyotake, Miyazaki, Japan.

BACKGROUND Fibrosing mediastinitis (FM) is a rare, fibroproliferative disorder within the mediastinum. It is extremely rare for hematologic malignancies to develop as FM. CASE REPORT A 32-year-old Japanese man with a 1-month history of headache and 2-week history of facial swelling underwent chest computed tomography (CT); a diffuse mass-like lesion was revealed in the anterior mediastinum with severe stenosis of vital mediastinal organs.

Background: Pneumothorax is a medical emergency caused by the abnormal accumulation of air in the pleural space-the potential space between the lungs and chest wall. On 2D chest radiographs, pneumothorax occurs within the thoracic cavity and outside of the mediastinum, and we refer to this area as "lung + space." While deep learning (DL) has increasingly been utilized to segment pneumothorax lesions in chest radiographs, many existing DL models employ an end-to-end approach.
