Adverse tissue reactions to ORISE gel during endoscopic mucosal resection and dissection.

J Gastrointest Surg

December 2024

Department of Colorectal Surgery, Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH, United States. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • ORISE gel, a lifting agent used in endoscopic procedures, has been linked to adverse tissue reactions known as giant cell reactions (GCR), which can complicate pathological evaluations.
  • A study analyzing 45 patients treated with ORISE gel showed that GCR was present in 24 patients and indicated various cancer cases among those who received this treatment.
  • The findings suggest that while ORISE gel is effective in lifting tissue for procedures, it may cause unintended interactions that hinder accurate diagnosis and treatment of colon issues.

Totally Laparoscopic Ileocolic Resection with Intracorporeal Anastomosis for Crohn's Disease: A Comparative Study.

Isr Med Assoc J

June 2024

Department of Surgery, Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, Israel, Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Background: Although minimally invasive surgery for Crohn's disease has been validated in previous studies, most of those reports have referred to laparoscopic-assisted procedures with an extra-corporeal anastomosis.

Objectives: To evaluate the short- and long-term outcomes of total laparoscopic ileocolic resection with an intracorporeal anastomosis for Crohn's disease patients.

Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective review of all patients who underwent primary ileocolic resection for Crohn's disease between 2010 and 2021.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is rarely discovered early due to low sensitivity of screening imaging and tumor markers, however, earlier identification may improve outcomes. This study assesses risk factors and time to recurrence of PC and implementation of a surveillance system. Patients with stage II-III colon adenocarcinoma undergoing curative colectomy between 2005-2022 were retrospectively reviewed at a single tertiary care institution.
