Due to the serious threat posed by tebuconazole to the aquatic ecosystem, it is imperative to develop a highly efficient adsorbent material for the sustainable remediation of tebuconazole-contaminated water. Herein, a phosphorus (P)-doped biochar from corn straw and HPO was fabricated by one-step pyrolysis for tebuconazole adsorption. Results showed that the P-doped biochar produced at 500℃ (PBC500) possesses a large specific surface area (SSA=869.6 m/g), abundant surface functional groups, and the highest tebuconazole adsorption capacity (429.6 mg/g). The adsorption of tebuconazole on PBC500 followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamic calculations indicated that the adsorption of tebuconazole by PBC500 was a spontaneous, endothermic process with a random increase. Adsorption mechanism mainly involves pore filling, π-π interactions, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interaction. Moreover, PBC500 demonstrated robust anti-interference capabilities in adsorbing tebuconazole from diverse water sources and exhibited excellent reusability, underscoring its potential for a broad array of practical applications.

Improving the quality of degraded coastal saline-alkali soil and promoting plant growth are key challenges in the restoration of ecological functions in coastal regions. Organic ameliorants such as effective microbial (EM) agent, biochar, and organic compost have been proposed as sustainable solutions, but limited research has explored the combined effects of these amendments. This study investigates five organic improvement strategies: individual applications of EM, corn straw biochar (CSB), and sewage sludge-reed straw compost (COM), along with combined treatments of CSB + EM and COM + EM, on Sesbania growth in a pot experiment.

The contamination of water and soil by heavy metals (HMs) is a global issue that should be given much more concern. Modified nano-zero-valent iron (nZVI) composites offer an effective strategy for HMs remediation, but few studies have focused on removing coexisting HMs and the eco-toxicity of the composite. In this study, corn straw biochar-supported nZVI composites (nZVI-BC) were synthesized, characterized and used for the removal of Cr, Pb, and Cd in single and multi-system at different composites dosages, metal concentrations, and solution pH.

Densification of biomass through pelletizing offers a promising approach to producing clean biofuels from renewable resources. This study, which investigates the impact of additive blends on wheat straw pellet making and upgrading the physiochemical properties, has revealed exciting possibilities. Five additives, including sawdust (SD), bentonite clay (BC), corn starch (S), crude glycerol (CG), and biochar (BioC), were chosen for this study.

Phosphorus, as a nonrenewable resource, plays a crucial role in crop development and productivity. However, the extent to which straw amendments contribute to the dynamics of soil alkaline phosphomonoesterase (ALP)-producing bacterial community and functionality over an extended period remains elusive. Here, we conducted a 7-year long-term field experiment consisting of a no-fertilizer control, a chemical fertilizer treatment, and three straw (straw, straw combined with manure, and straw biochar) treatments.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibit broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and serve as effective antimicrobial agents against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. In this study, agricultural waste corn straw was used as the raw material to obtain cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) through enzymatic hydrolysis. The hydrolysate was employed as reducing agents to synthesize CNC-AgNPs.
