Ocular aberrometry with a wide dynamic range for assessing vision performance and anterior segment imaging that provides anatomical details of the eye are both essential for vision research and clinical applications. Defocus error is a major limitation of digital wavefront aberrometry (DWA), as the blurring of the detected point spread function (PSF) significantly reduces the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) beyond the ±3 D range. With the aid of Badal-like precompensation of defocus, the dynamic defocus range of the captured aberrated PSFs can be effectively extended. We demonstrate a dual-modality MHz VCSEL-based swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) system with easy switching between DWA and OCT imaging modes. The system is capable of measuring aberrations with defocus dynamic range of 20 D as well as providing fast anatomical imaging of the anterior segment at an A-scan rate of 1.6 MHz.

Keeping track of time intervals is a crucial aspect of behavior and cognition. Many theoretical models of how the brain times behavior make predictions for steady-state performance of well-learned intervals, but the rate of learning intervals in these models varies greatly, ranging from one-shot learning to learning over thousands of trials. Here, we explored how quickly rats and mice adapt to changes in interval durations using a serial fixed-interval task.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of four-dimensional noise reduction filtering using a similarity algorithm (4D-SF) on the image quality and tumor visibility of low-dose dynamic computed tomography (CT) in evaluating breast cancer.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-four patients with 38 lesions who underwent low-dose dynamic breast CT and were pathologically diagnosed with breast cancer were enrolled. Dynamic CT images were reconstructed using iterative reconstruction alone or in combination with 4D-SF.

Inducible protein switches are currently limited for use in tissues and organisms because common inducers cannot be controlled with precision in space and time in optically dense settings. Here, we introduce a protein that can be reversibly toggled with a small change in temperature, a stimulus that is both penetrant and dynamic. This protein, called Melt (Membrane localization using temperature) oligomerizes and translocates to the plasma membrane when temperature is lowered.

Observing quantum mechanical characteristics in biological processes is a surprising and important discovery. One example, which is gaining more experimental evidence and practical applications, is the effect of weak magnetic fields with extremely low frequencies on cells, especially cancerous ones. In this study, we use a mathematical model of ROS dynamics in cancer cells to show how ROS oscillatory patterns can act as a resonator to amplify the small effects of the magnetic fields on the radical pair dynamics in mitochondrial Complex III.

Liquid-liquid phase transitions play a pivotal role in various scientific disciplines and technological applications, ranging from biology to materials science and geophysics. Understanding the behavior of materials undergoing these transitions provides valuable insights into complex systems and their dynamic properties. This review explores the implications of liquid-liquid phase transitions, particularly focusing on the transition between low-density liquid (LDL) and high-density liquid (HDL) phases.
