Aging is commonly accompanied by increased cardiovascular risk and diet plays a crucial role in health condition. The aim of this study was to determine cardiovascular risk factors as predictors of nutritional risk in Mexican older adults. A cross-sectional study on Mexican patients aged ≥60 years with cardiovascular risk factors affiliated with a medical unit in Northeast Mexico was performed from July to December 2021. The nutritional risk evaluations were performed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) questionnaire. After a multivariate analysis, the cardiovascular risk factors identified as independent predictors of risk of malnutrition were hypertriglyceridemia (adjusted OR (AOR): 1.8; 95% CI: 1.03-3.14; = 0.04) and systolic hypertension I (AOR: 2.28; 95% CI: 1.04-5.02; = 0.041); age over 80 years (AOR: 5.17; 95% CI: 1.83-14.65, = 0.002) and elementary school education (AOR: 2.34; 95% CI: 1.20-4.55; = 0.013) were also related. The cross-sectional design and single-center approach of this study limits the generalizability of the results; however, conducting timely evaluations of blood pressure, triglyceride levels, and risk of malnutrition using the MNA tool for patients aged ≥60 years could prevent illness and reduce mortality within this population group.

Introduction: Decreased left atrial appendage emptying velocity (LAAV) is a marker for thrombus formation. This study evaluates the association between LAAV and inflammatory indices in non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) patients.
Methods: The study population was 1428 patients with AF, 875 of whom enrolled.

The impact of lead and cadmium exposure on subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD), indicated by elevated high-sensitivity cardiac troponin (hs-cTnT) and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) remains uncertain. We analyzed data from participants aged 20 and older, without overt CVD, in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES; 1999-2004). Elevated lead and cadmium levels were defined as 3.

Background: The relationship between the psoas muscle gauge (PMG), a combined sarcopenia indicator obtained from psoas muscle index (PMI) and psoas muscle density (PMD), and adverse clinical outcomes in patients on hemodialysis remains unclear. We examined whether psoas muscle gauge could predict all-cause mortality and new cardiovascular events more accurately than psoas muscle index in these patients.
Methods: We retrospectively included 217 hemodialysis patients who underwent abdominal computed tomography.

Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the current status of lipid-lowering therapy utilization and lipid goal attainment in women. We focus on lipid-lowering therapy in individuals with and without established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, as well as familial hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, this review aims to explore the underlying mechanisms driving these sex differences and to identify existing knowledge gaps in this area.

Objectives: The Ross procedure for aortic regurgitation (AR) and abnormal aortic valve morphologies is associated with an increased risk of autograft dilatation. Autograft support may ameliorate this problem. We analyzed the results for all haemodynamic lesions and the effect of autograft support.
