The Brassicaceae genus consists of many economically important mustards of value for food and medicinal purposes, namely Asian mustard (), ball mustard (), black mustard (), garlic mustard (), hedge mustard (), Asian hedge mustard (), oilseed rape (), rapeseed (), treacle mustard (), smooth mustard (), white ball mustard (), white mustard (), and Canola. Some of these are commercially cultivated as oilseeds to meet the global demand for a healthy plant-derived oil, high in polyunsaturated fats, i.e., and . Other species are foraged from the wild where they grow on roadsides and as a weed of arable land, i.e., and , and harvested for medicinal uses. These plants contain a diverse range of bioactive natural products including sulfur-containing glucosinolates and other potentially valuable compounds, namely omega-3-fatty acids, terpenoids, phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, tannins, S-methyl cysteine sulfoxide, and trace-elements. Various parts of these plants and many of the molecules that are produced throughout the plant have been used in traditional medicines and more recently in the mainstream pharmaceutical and food industries. This study relates the uses of mustards in traditional medicines with their bioactive molecules and possible mechanisms of action and provides an overview of the current knowledge of Brassicaceae oilseeds and mustards, their phytochemicals, and their biological activities.

The trichomes of mustard leaves have significance due to their ability to combat unfavorable external conditions and enhance disease resistance. It was demonstrated that the MYB-bHLH-WD40 (MBW) ternary complex consists of MYB, basic Helix-Loop-Helix (bHLH), and WD40-repeat (WD40) family proteins and plays a key role in regulating trichome formation and density. The bHLH gene family, particularly the Myelocytomatosis (MYC) proteins that possess the structural bHLH domain (termed bHLH-MYC), are crucial to the formation and development of leaf trichomes in plants.

Insufficient selectivity is a major constraint to the further development of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors for chemical warfare agents, and this paper proposed an improved scheme combining catalytic layer/gas-sensitive layer laminated structure with temperature dynamic modulation for the Mustard gas (HD) MOS sensor. Mustard gas simulant 2-Chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (2-CEES) was used as the target gas, (Pt + Pd + Rh)@AlO as the catalytic layer material, (Pt + Rh)@WO as the gas-sensitive layer material, the (Pt + Pd + Rh)@AlO/(Pt + Rh)@WO sensor was prepared, and the sensor was tested for 2-CEES and 12 battlefield environment simulation gases under temperature dynamic modulation. The results showed that the sensor only showed obvious characteristic peaks in the resistance response curves to HD under certain conditions (100-400 °C, the highest temperature was held for 1 s and the lowest temperature was held for 2 s), and its peak height reached 6.

The aim of this study was to isolate strains with excellent fermentation performance from pickles, thus enhancing the quality of rapid, low-salt fermented mustard leaves (Brassica juncea var. multiceps) through process optimization and inoculation fermentation.
