Several studies showed that right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is a powerful predictor in heart failure (HF). Advanced echocardiographic techniques such as speckle-tracking imaging and three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography proved to be accurate tools for RV assessment, but their clinical significance remains to be clarified. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of two-dimensional (2D) RV strain and 3D ejection fraction (RVEF) in predicting adverse outcome in patients with non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

Background: We aimed to evaluate whether right ventricle (RV) longitudinal strain indexed to pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP) has prognostic significance in patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
Methods: Patients undergoing CRT were prospectively included. The primary endpoint was adverse cardiovascular events (death and HF-related hospitalizations).

Lung cancer high mortality rate remains a major problem, despite the actual progress in its early detection and therapeutic design. Since lung cancer' treatment requires separation of tumors in small cell carcinoma and non-small cell carcinoma, the histopathological diagnosis focuses on this basic distinction, while immunohistochemistry contributes considerably to confirm the diagnosis accuracy. In order to check the assumption that p63 is a useful marker for squamous cellular differentiation, we used two antibodies: anti-p63 and anti-thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1), based on their immunoexpression to differentiate small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) from poorly differentiated nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

Placenta, as a highly specialized organ in connecting the maternal and fetal organism, is frequently affected by a specific vascular pathology. The correlation between the macroscopic and the microscopic aspects of the fetal placenta vascularization together with the appearance of fibrin deposits is used to determine the pathological cause of death. Different studies suggest the hypothesis of precocious development of fibrin deposits during pregnancy, due to some immune-like reactions or due to the circulatory variations in the villous territory.
