Metastasis is the primary cause of cancer-related death, with the dissemination and colonization of primary tumor cells at the metastatic site facilitated by various molecules and complex pathways. Understanding the biological mechanisms underlying the metastatic process is critical for the development of effective interventions. Several epigenetic modifications have been identified that play critical roles in regulating cancer metastasis. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of recent advances in understanding the role of epigenetic modifiers, including histone modifications, DNA methylation, non-coding RNAs, enhancer reprogramming, chromatin accessibility, and N6-methyladenosine, in metastasis-associated processes, such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cancer cell migration, and invasion. In particular, this review provides a detailed and in-depth description of the role of crosstalk between epigenetic regulators in tumor metastasis. Additionally, we explored the potential and limitations of epigenetics-related target molecules in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of cancer metastasis.

Torsion and ruptured ovarian cystadenocarcinoma with internal bleeding complicated with retroperitoneal hematoma after tumor transection: A case report.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery Center, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, Hualien, Taiwan.

Rationale: Ovarian tumor torsion is a critical gynecological emergency, predominantly affecting women of reproductive age, with benign teratomas being the most common culprits. In contrast, malignant ovarian tumors, such as mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, infrequently present with torsion due to their invasive and angiogenic characteristics. The occurrence of torsion in malignant tumors complicates diagnosis and management, particularly when associated with complications like congestion, infarction, and internal bleeding.

Prostate cancer is epithelial malignant prostate hyperplasia caused by a tumor. We found prostate cancer GSE141551 and GSE200879 profiles from gene expression omnibus database, followed by differentially expressed genes (DEGs) analysis, weighted gene co-expression network analysis, protein-protein interaction analysis, gene function enrichment analysis, and comparative toxicology database analysis. Finally, the gene expression heat map was drawn, and miRNA information regulating core DEGs was retrieved.

T-helper 17 (Th17) cells significantly influence the onset and advancement of malignancies. This study endeavor focused on delineating molecular classifications and developing a prognostic signature grounded in Th17 cell differentiation-related genes (TCDRGs) using machine learning algorithms in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). A consensus clustering approach was applied to The Cancer Genome Atlas-HNSCC cohort based on TCDRGs, followed by an examination of differential gene expression using the limma package.

Solitary Axillary Lymph Node Metastasis From Ovarian Cancer on 18F-FDG PET/CT.

Clin Nucl Med

January 2025

From the Department of Nuclear Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, People's Republic of China.

Solitary axillary lymph node metastasis from ovarian cancer is rare. A 74-year-old woman who had undergone hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for ovarian cancer 2 years ago presented to our hospital with enlarged axillary lymph node. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed left axillary lymphadenopathy with an SUVmax of 8.

Detectability of Al18F-NOTA-HER2-BCH PET for Nodal Metastases in Patients With HER2-Positive Breast Cancer.

Clin Nucl Med

January 2025

From the Key Laboratory of Carcinogenesis and Translational Research (Ministry of Education/Beijing), NMPA Key Laboratory for Research and Evaluation of Radiopharmaceuticals (National Medical Products Administration), Department of Nuclear Medicine; Peking University Cancer Hospital and Institute, Beijing, China.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare Al18F-NOTA-HER2-BCH and 18F-FDG for detecting nodal metastases in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer on PET/CT.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective study, 62 participants with HER2-positive breast cancer underwent both Al18F-NOTA-HER2-BCH and 18F-FDG PET/CT. Participants were pathologically confirmed as HER2-positive (IHC 3+ or IHC 2+ with gene amplification on FISH).
