Objective: To assess the impact of NRP virtual simulations (eSim™), video or no refresher training, on simulation performance, six months after a provider course; and to evaluate eSim™ acceptability.

Study Design: In this multi-site randomized controlled trial, NRP providers from four U.S. institutions were randomized to receive refreshers every two months with NRP eSim™, NRP resuscitation video, or no refresher (control). Simulation performance was assessed immediately after an NRP course and six months later.

Result: 248 participants completed the baseline simulation and 148 completed the six-month follow-up simulation. The majority (71%) of subjects had a decline in resuscitation skills at 6 months. There were no differences in performance between the study groups, but participants who reported using either the video or eSim™ had less decline in performance at the 6-month follow-up (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: NRP refreshers with either eSim™ or NRP video may mitigate the decline in resuscitation skills after training.

Ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents (ORs) are increasingly turning to the internet for medical information, underscoring the significant role that YouTube videos, particularly three-dimensional (3D) ones, play in lifelong learning. This study aimed to compare the content and quality of 3D YouTube videos with two-dimensional (2D) videos as supplementary educational tools for vitreoretinal surgery. Data collected included video length (minutes), time elapsed since upload (days), number of views, likes, dislikes, vitreoretinal surgery type, and visualization system.

Article Synopsis
  • Electrophoretic displays (EPDs) are gaining attention for their bistable and reflective properties, but they struggle with inconsistent video images and ghosting effects due to complex forces during display.
  • A new image compensation method using a time-sharing longitudinal and transverse oscillation (TSLTO) driving waveform, along with a multi-frame pulse width modulation (MFPWM) waveform, has been proposed to enhance image quality and reduce ghosting.
  • This new method improved image consistency, with significant increases in SSIM and PSNR, and reduced boundary ghosting, making EPDs better suited for high refresh rate and high-quality video applications.

We provide an audio-visual step-by-step guide to the preparation of a donor heart for the application of normothermic, ex situ cardiac perfusion on the TransMedics Organ Care System using a heart donated after brain death. The use of the Organ Care System increases heart transplantation activity by enabling the utilization of hearts donated after circulatory death, the use of extended criteria grafts and the extension of out-of-body time, which can help overcome geographic or surgical barriers. Ex situ cardiac perfusion is a new technique and is therefore not yet routinely performed in many centres.

Following the onset of the "Iron Swords" war, Israel's National Emergency Medical Organization Magen David Adom (MDA) implemented a program designed to prevent post-traumatic sequelae among its teams. 'Team debriefing' is at the core of the program, which also includes primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention carried out regularly to preclude psychological harm to employees and volunteers. Apart from the initial team debriefings, MDA's enhanced prevention program includes several other components and stages.
