The design of novel quaternary materials can be a chemically challenging endeavor. Here, we show that a new tolerance factor, we herein call the quaternary tolerance factor (QTF), akin to the Goldschmidt ratio, can be applied to a homologous series of quaternary materials to aid in the prediction of structural stability in new phases. Single crystals of nine new members of the CuQ homologous series were synthesized ( = K, Rb, Cs, = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Er, Yb, Lu, = S, Se) for = 1, 2, and 3 using a reactive KCl flux method as the sole potassium source. This homologous series is notable for being the largest of all known chalcogenide homologies and thus serves as a case study for understanding quaternary structural relationships. We present a thorough structural analysis of these newly synthesized compounds and place them in the context of all previously reported members of the homologous series. We then report a generalizable tolerance factor capable of predicting structurally interrelated quaternary materials from an sphere-packing approach for the design of new materials.

Fluorogenic RNA aptamers have revolutionized the visualization of RNAs within complex cellular processes. A representative category of them employs the derivatives of green fluorescent protein chromophore, 4-hydroxybenzlidene imidazolinone (HBI), as chromophores. However, the structural homogeneity of their chromophoric backbones causes severe cross-reactivity with other homologous chromophores.

Background: Predicting response to targeted cancer therapies increasingly relies on both simple and complex genetic biomarkers. Comprehensive genomic profiling using high-throughput assays must be evaluated for reproducibility and accuracy compared with existing methods.
Methods: This study is a multicenter evaluation of the Oncomine™ Comprehensive Assay Plus (OCA Plus) Pan-Cancer Research Panel for comprehensive genomic profiling of solid tumors.

Understanding protein function would be facilitated by direct, real-time observation of chemical kinetics in the atomic structure. The selectivity filter (SF) of the K channel provides an ideal model, catalyzing the dehydration and transport of K ions across the cell membrane through a narrow pore. We used a "pump-probe" method called electric-field-stimulated time-resolved X-ray crystallography (EFX) to initiate and observe K conduction in the NaK2K channel in both directions on the timescale of the transport process.

Introduction: Alterations in homologous recombination repair (HRR) genes occur in 20%-30% of men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) which may increase sensitivity to platinum chemotherapy. Specifically, exceptional responses to platinum chemotherapy have been reported among patients with BRCA mutations. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of platinum chemotherapy in patients with mCRPC with and without HRR.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT) remains the mainstay of treatment for adults with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Due to the crucial role of measurable residual disease (MRD) before Allo-HSCT in predicting relapse and the promising anti-leukemia effect of blinatumomab, we documented a short-course, low-dose conditioning regimen incorporating blinatumomab for Allo-HSCT in three ALL patients with positive MRD. Following the administration of the blinatumomab-containing conditioning regimen, all patients attained complete remission (CR) with negative MRD status, and no severe adverse events were observed.
