Heterometallic hydride complexes are of growing interest due to their potential to contribute to highly active insertion-based catalysis; however, methods to modulate electron density within this class of molecules are underexplored. Addition of ancillary ligands to heterotrimetallic NiAlH species (1) results in the formation of heterobimetallic NiAl-hydride complexes with varying phosphine donors (2-(L)2). Incorporation of sigma donating ancillary ligands of increasing strength led to contractions of the Ni-Al distances correlated to a strengthening of a back donation interaction to the Al-H sigma antibonding orbital, most prominently present in 2-(PMe3)2. Demethylation of the aryl ether from 2-(PMe3)2 provides access to a novel anionic nickel-aluminum complex (3) with a maintained bridged hydride moiety between Ni and Al. Increased negative charge in complex 3 results in an elongation of the Ni-Al interaction. Combined crystallographic, spectroscopic, and computational studies support a 3-center interaction within the Al-H-Ni subunits and were used to map the degree of Ni-H character of the series within the Al-H-Ni bonding continuum.

We measure the high-intensity laser propagation throughout meter-scale, channel-guided laser-plasma accelerators by adjusting the length of the plasma channel on a shot-by-shot basis, showing high-quality guiding of 500 TW laser pulses over 30 cm in a hydrogen plasma of density n_{0}≈1×10^{17} cm^{-3}. We observed transverse energy transport of higher-order modes in the first ≈12 cm of the plasma channel, followed by quasimatched propagation, and the gradual, dark-current-free depletion of laser energy to the wake. We quantify the laser-to-wake transfer efficiency limitations of currently available petawatt-class lasers and demonstrate via simulation how control over the laser mode can significantly improve beam parameters.

Recently, robust d-wave superconductive (SC) order has been unveiled in the ground state of the 2D t-t^{'}-J model-with both nearest-neighbor (t) and next-nearest-neighbor (t^{'}) hoppings-by density matrix renormalization group studies. However, there is currently a debate on whether the d-wave SC holds up strong on both t^{'}/t>0 and t^{'}/t<0 cases for the t-t^{'}-J model, which correspond to the electron- and hole-doped sides of the cuprate phase diagram, respectively. Here, we exploit state-of-the-art thermal tensor network approach to accurately obtain the phase diagram of the t-t^{'}-J model on cylinders with widths up to W=6 and down to low temperature as T/J≃0.

The pentafluoroorthotellurate group (-OTeF, teflate) exhibits high electron-withdrawing properties. Indeed, it is often used as a bulky substitute for fluoride due to its high chemical stability and larger size, which reduces its tendency to act as a bridging ligand. These characteristics make it a valuable ligand in synthetic chemistry, facilitating the preparation of molecular structures analogous to polymeric fluoride-based compounds.

Charge transport in materials has an impact on a wide range of devices based on semiconductor, battery, or superconductor technology. Charge transport in sliding charge density waves (CDW) differs from all others in that the atomic lattice is directly involved in the transport process. To obtain an overall picture of the structural changes associated to the collective transport, the large coherent x-ray beam generated by an x-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) source was used.

Excitons, which are Coulomb bound electron-hole pairs, are composite bosons and thus at low temperature can form a superfluid state with a single well-defined amplitude and phase. We directly image this macroscopic exciton superfluid state in an hBN-separated MoSe-WSe heterostructure. At high density, we identify quasi-long-range order over the entire active area of our sample, through spatially resolved coherence measurements.
