Objective: To gain an understanding of the cultural perceptions of health among Asian Indian adults in an urban setting.

Design: Qualitative semistructured interviews.

Setting: Midwest urban community PARTICIPANTS: Asian Indian adults (n = 20) aged ≥25 years, who self-identified as 100% Asian Indian descent.

Phenomenon Of Interest: Individual interviews were conducted by a trained interviewer to assess cultural perceptions of health.

Analysis: Transcript analysis was performed by 2 independent coders using verbatim transcripts. Content analysis was used to identify themes using a grounded theory approach.

Results: The salient themes that emerged were a cultural definition of health, acculturation, mental health, and health information. Participants believed good health was associated with the ability to perform daily activities, regular exercise, and eating well. There was a lack of awareness of Asian Indian-specific body mass index categories and that overweight and obesity were an important risk factor for chronic diseases.

Conclusion And Implications: These data provide a context for health promotion efforts and underscore a gap in awareness of risk factors risk for chronic diseases among the Asian Indian community. Culturally specific interventions targeted at the Asian Indian population, considering their worldview and perceptions of health, will help address this important public health concern.

In this study, we have designed and developed a cationic bolaform C12-(2,3-dihydroxy-N, N-dimethyl-N-(2-ureidoethyl)propan-1-aminium chloride)2 (C12(DDUPAC)2) that is derived from biocompatible molecules. The bolaform C12(DDUPAC)2 has hydroxyl (OH) functionality at both the cationic head groups. The impact of head group structure on the self-assembly and effectiveness of gene transfection and antimicrobial activity was investigated and compared with that of the hydrochloride salt C12-(N, N-dimethyl-N-(2-ureidoethan-1-aminium chloride)2 (C12(DUAC)2) of its precursor molecule.

In this study, we report the design and development of a stable fluorescent probe that is selectively localized in the cytosol of Hela cells. We designed two probes, 1 and 2, with D-π-A (carbazole (Cbz)-vinyl-naphthalimide (NPI)) and A-π-D-π-A (NPI-vinyl-Cbz-vinyl-NPI) architecture, respectively. Probes 1 and 2 exhibit broad photoluminescence (PL) spectra ranging from green (550 nm) to far-red (800 nm) in solutions and aggregated states.

Background: Most of the studies on difficult intubation and laryngoscopy focused on American and European populations. However, Indians have distinct anthropometric characteristics compared to these populations. This study aims to determine the gender difference in inter-incisor distance (IID) cut-off marks to assess the ease of intubation in the Indian population.

Revised definition of obesity in Asian Indians living in India.

National Diabetes Obesity and Cholesterol Foundation (N-DOC), New Delhi, India; Diabetes Foundation India, New Delhi, India.

Aim: The prevailing guidelines for obesity in Asian Indians, published in 2009, relied solely on body mass index (BMI) criteria. Recognizing the limitations of BMI in accurately diagnosing obesity and the emergence of new research revealing the association between generalized and abdominal adiposity in Asian Indians and early-onset co-morbid diseases, a comprehensive redefinition was needed.

Method: In a Delphi process focused on obesity in India, experts were invited via email to participate in five rounds.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and its subsequent catalytic fixation into usable compounds represent a potential approach for addressing the energy problem and the implications of global warming. Hence, it is necessary to develop effective catalytic systems required for the transformation of CO2 into valuable chemicals/fuels. Herein, we rationally designed a hydroxyl-functionalized porous organic framework (OH-POF) consisting of both acidic (OH) as well as basic N sites for the transformation of CO2 using epoxides for the production of cyclic carbonates (CCs), a useful commodity chemical under environmental-friendly, metal/solvent/co-catalyst-free conditions.
