Microwave thermotherapy (MWTT), as a treatment for tumors, lacks specificity and requires sensitizers. Most reported microwave sensitizers are single metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which must be loaded with ionic liquids to enhance the performance in MWTT. Meanwhile, MWTT is rarely combined with other treatment modalities. Here, we synthesized a novel Fe-Cu bimetallic organic framework FeCuMOF (FCM) by applying a hydrothermal method and further modified it with methyl polyethylene glycol (mPEG). The obtained FCM@PEG (FCMP) showed remarkable heating performance under low-power microwave irradiation; it also acted as a novel nanospheres enzyme to catalyze HO decomposition, producing abundant reactive oxygen species (ROS) to deplete glutathione (GSH) and prevent ROS clearance from tumor cells during chemodynamic treatment. The FCMP was biodegradable and demonstrated excellent biocompatibility, allowing it to be readily metabolized without causing toxic effects. Finally, it was shown to act as a suitable agent for T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and . This new bimetallic nanostructure could successfully realize two tumor treatment modalities (MWTT and chemodynamic therapy) and dual imaging modes (T MRI and microwave thermal imaging). Our findings represent a breakthrough for integrating the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and provides a reference for developing new microwave sensitizers.

Binuclear catalytic sites attained in a controlled way with complementary and cooperative metal ion centers are highly relevant in the development of new or enhanced catalytic processes. Herein, binuclear sites carrying Fe(III), Cu(II), or Mn(III) metal ions with a polarized structure have been prepared using the ionic self-assembly of oppositely charged metalloporphyrins. Binary porphyrin structures (BIPOS) have been prepared based on metalloporphyrin cations carrying pyridinium or methylpyridinium groups in conjugation with metalloporphyrin anions carrying sulfonatophenyl groups.

The co-loading of radionuclides and small-molecule chemotherapeutic drugs as nanotheranostic platforms using nanozymes holds tremendous potential for imaging-guided synergistic therapy. This study presents such nanotheranostic platform (Lu-MFeCu@Tan) via co-assembling Lu radionuclide and tanshinone (Tan) into Fe/Cu dual-metal nanozyme (MFeCu). This platform simultaneously enables single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging and a quadruple-synergistic tumor therapy approach, including internal radioisotope therapy (RIT), catalysis therapy, chemotherapy, and MFeCu-mediated ferroptosis and cuproptosis therapy.

Poor/rich dual electron reaction centers promoting photo-Fenton synergistic removal of organic pollutants: Graphite carbon-modified copper ferrite.

Controlling high recombination of photogenerated carriers and optimizing low cycling of metal valence states are the two key control steps in enhancing photo-Fenton oxidation. To achieve multiscale synergy of photo-Fenton degradation, graphite carbon-modified copper ferrite composites (C/CFO) with poor/rich dual electron reaction centers were synthesized through direct carbonization of Fe/Cu bimetallic organic frameworks. A novel photo-Fenton catalytic system was constructed by irradiating the Fenton reaction with visible light.

Valorization of iron-rich metallurgical slags in the construction of Fenton-like catalysts has an appealing potential from the perspective of sustainable development. For the first time, copper smelting slag (CSS) was utilized as the precursor to synthesize hollow sea urchin-like Fe-Cu nanoreactors (CuFeSi) to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for chlortetracycline hydrochloride (CTC) degradation. The hyper-channels and nano-sized cavities were formed in the catalysts owing to the induction and modification of Cu, not only promoting the in-situ growth of silicates and the formation of cavities due to the etching of SiO microspheres, but also resulting the generation of nanotubes through the distortion and rotation of the nanosheets.
