Microbes transform their environments using diverse enzymatic reactions. However, it remains challenging to measure microbial reaction rates in natural environments. Despite advances in global quantification of enzyme abundances, the individual relationships between enzyme abundances and their reaction rates have not been systematically examined. Using matched proteomic and reaction rate data from microbial cultures, we show that enzyme abundance is often insufficient to predict its corresponding reaction rate. However, we discovered that global proteomic measurements can be used to make accurate rate predictions of individual reaction rates (median = 0.78). Accurate rate predictions required only a small number of proteins and they did not need explicit prior mechanistic knowledge or environmental context. These results indicate that proteomes are encoders of cellular reaction rates, potentially enabling proteomic measurements to estimate the rates of microbially mediated reactions in natural systems.

The incidence of cervical cancer continues to rise in underdeveloped regions due to low human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates and inadequate screening systems. To achieve convenient, rapid, and accurate detection of HPV, we developed a three-wire lateral flow strip assay system based on dual-OR logic gates for rapid and simultaneous detection of HPV subtypes 16 and 18 in a single test. The system combines three-branch-catalytic hairpin assembly (TCHA)-mediated signal amplification with simple OR logic gate-based signal output to improve detection rates while enabling HPV 16/18 subtype identification.

Background: Fingolimod and ocrelizumab are approved treatments for adults with multiple sclerosis (MS); however, only fingolimod is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of pediatric MS. Currently, there are limited data for the safety and efficacy of ocrelizumab use in children.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients with relapsing-remitting MS who started either ocrelizumab or fingolimod before age 18 years.

An understanding of proton transfer and migration at the surfaces of solid metal oxides and related molecular polyoxometalates (POMs) and metal alkoxides is crucial for the development of reactivity involving protonation or the absorption/binding of water. In this work, the hydrolysis of alkoxido Ti- and Sn-substituted Lindqvist [(MeO)MWO] (M = Ti, ; M = Sn, ) and Keggin [(MeO)MPWO] (M = Ti, ; M = Sn, ) type polyoxometalates (POMs) to hydroxido derivatives and subsequent condensation to μ-oxido species has been investigated in detail to provide insight into proton transfer reactions in these molecular metal oxide systems. Solution NMR studies revealed the dependence of reactions not only on the nature of the heteroatom (Ti or Sn) but also on the type of lacunary (W or PW) POM and also on the solvent (MeCN or DMSO).

The conformational isomerization of nitrous acid (HONO) promoted by excitation of the or stretching normal coordinates is the first observed case of an infrared-induced photochemical reaction. The energy captured by the excited normal modes is redistributed into a highly excited vibrational level of the torsion normal coordinate, which is the isomerization reaction coordinate. Herein, we present simple numerical methods to qualitatively investigate the coupling between the normal coordinates and the possible gateways for vibrational energy redistribution leading to the isomerization process.
