The increasing recognition of the right ventricle (RV) necessitates the development of RV-focused interventions, devices and testbeds. In this study, we developed a soft robotic model of the right heart that accurately mimics RV biomechanics and hemodynamics, including free wall, septal and valve motion. This model uses a biohybrid approach, combining a chemically treated endocardial scaffold with a soft robotic synthetic myocardium. When connected to a circulatory flow loop, the robotic right ventricle (RRV) replicates real-time hemodynamic changes in healthy and pathological conditions, including volume overload, RV systolic failure and pressure overload. The RRV also mimics clinical markers of RV dysfunction and is validated using an in vivo porcine model. Additionally, the RRV recreates chordae tension, simulating papillary muscle motion, and shows the potential for tricuspid valve repair and replacement in vitro. This work aims to provide a platform for developing tools for research and treatment for RV pathophysiology.

This paper proposes the use of artificial intelligence techniques, specifically the nnU-Net convolutional neural network, to improve the identification of left ventricular walls in images of myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, with the objective of improving the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. The methodology included data collection in a clinical environment, followed by data preparation and analysis using the 3D Slicer Platform for manual segmentation, and subsequently, the application of artificial intelligence models for automated segmentation, focusing on the efficiency of identifying the walls of the left ventricular. A total of 83 clinical routine exams were collected, each exam containing 50 slices, which is 4,150 images.

We describe a rare but interesting complication of totally endoscopic robotic mitral valve repair in a patient with severe mitral regurgitation. The mitral valve was repaired robotically by standard techniques, and the intraoperative transesophageal echocardiogram demonstrated no residual mitral regurgitation. However, there was unexpected hypokinesia of the posterior and lateral walls of the left ventricle, with subsequent electrocardiography showing acute ST elevations of the lateral segment.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital displacement of the tricuspid valve resulting in atrialization of the right ventricle. About half of the patients with Ebstein's anomaly also have atrial septal defects, which may lead to chronic shunting and development of Eisenmenger syndrome. We describe a case of a sexagenarian male patient with a history of Ebstein's anomaly complicated with Eisenmenger syndrome undergoing robotic laparoscopic adrenalectomy who presented hemodynamic instability, hypoxemia, and likely right-to-left shunting intraoperatively, as well as the actions taken to correct it and have a successful outcome.
