Carbendazim (CBZ) insecticides have been widely employed, raising serious concerns about their impacts on human health and the environment. A facile hydrothermal technique was used to prepare a zinc ferrite (ZnFe₂O₄) combined with porous graphene oxide (PGO) as a nanocomposite for selective CBZ detection. The ZnFe₂O₄/PGO nanocomposite was then used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), an affordable platform for CBZ detection. Various spectroscopic techniques were employed to confirm the nanomaterial. The electrochemical properties were further investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The ZnFe₂O₄/PGO nanocomposite modified the glassy carbon electrode surface for CBZ detection. A broad linear response range of 0.0039 to 200 μM, high sensitivity (2.184 μAμM cm), a low detection limit of 0.0013 μM, outstanding stability, repeatability, and practical applicability are the intriguing qualities of the ZnFe₂O₄/PGO-modified electrode for CBZ detection.

The present work focuses on the photophysical behavior of meso-N-butylcarbazole-substituted BODIPY (CBZ-BDP) in different organized media towards exploring the possible use of the dye as a molecular sensor and imaging agent. The molecule shows an appreciable change in absorption and emission spectra at 75% water-acetonitrile mixture compared to pure acetonitrile. In water-acetonitrile mixture, it displays aggregate-induced emission (AIE) bands.

Article Synopsis
  • Carbamazepine (CBZ) is commonly used for various medical purposes and undergoes multiple metabolic processes, leading to different transformation products (TPs) in the environment and the human body.
  • A study analyzed CBZ distribution and its TPs in the Mangyeong and Dongjin Rivers in Korea, finding average concentrations of 128.8 ng/L and 89.0 ng/L, respectively, with higher levels in the Mangyeong River.
  • The research identified and ranked several TPs based on detection frequency, revealing that some products formed during water treatment processes, and provided insights for better wastewater management and environmental policy-making.

transglutaminase (smTG) can be used for site-specific labeling of proteins with chemical groups. Here, we explored the use of modified smTG for the biosynthesis of nanobody-fluorophore conjugates (NFC). smTG catalyzes the conjugation of acyl donors containing glutamine with lysine-containing acceptors, which can lead to non-specific cross-linking.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the presence of pharmaceutical residues in the benthic organisms of Admiralty Bay, Antarctica, using advanced chemical analysis techniques.
  • Among the 22 compounds tested, only caffeine and carbamazepine were found, suggesting low levels of contamination in the bay.
  • The findings indicate that local research stations are likely the main source of this pollution and highlight the ability of brown and red macroalgae to accumulate these substances, establishing a baseline for future environmental assessments.

Traditional lateral flow immunoassays (TLFIAs) are valued for their simplicity, speed, and user-friendliness. However, the specificity of conventional test strips often necessitates large quantities of antigen-protein conjugates for target detection, which can be resource-intensive. Here, we present a strategy aimed at enhancing the universality of test strips while reducing the consumption of antigen-protein conjugates, without compromising sensitivity.
