Introduction: Falls are a major cause of accidents that can lead to serious injuries, especially among geriatric populations worldwide. Ensuring constant supervision in hospitals or smart environments while maintaining comfort and privacy is practically impossible. Therefore, fall detection has become a significant area of research, particularly with the use of multimodal sensors. The lack of efficient techniques for automatic fall detection hampers the creation of effective preventative tools capable of identifying falls during physical exercise in long-term care environments. The primary goal of this article is to examine the benefits of using multimodal sensors to enhance the precision of fall detection systems.
Methods: The proposed paper combines time-frequency features of inertial sensors with skeleton-based modeling of depth sensors to extract features. These multimodal sensors are then integrated using a fusion technique. Optimization and a modified K-Ary classifier are subsequently applied to the resultant fused data.
Results: The suggested model achieved an accuracy of 97.97% on the UP-Fall Detection dataset and 97.89% on the UR-Fall Detection dataset.
Discussion: This indicates that the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art classification results. Additionally, the proposed model can be utilized as an IoT-based solution, effectively promoting the development of tools to prevent fall-related injuries.

While recycling irrigation water can reduce water use constraints and costs in nurseries, adoption is hindered by the associated risk of recirculating and spreading waterborne pathogens. To enable regional water re-use, this study assessed oomycete re-circulation risks and recycled water treatment efficacy at organismal and community scales. In culture-based analysis of recycled pond water at two Mid-Atlantic nurseries across three years, diverse oomycetes (12+ species) were detected using culture-based analysis, with Phytopythium helicoides as the dominant species; MiSeq analysis detected eight of these species, plus 24 additional taxa.

Objectives: To determine the safety and efficacy of a video-supported Cawthorne-Cooksey exercise program (CCEP) in improving balance, dizziness and decreasing fear of falling in older adults with balance deficits and dizziness.
Methods: Thirty-two older adults were divided into two groups (intervention and control). The intervention group followed a video-supported CCEP group, while the control group received written instructions to maintain their usual activity and counselling on fall prevention.

Modernizing power systems into smart grids has introduced numerous benefits, including enhanced efficiency, reliability, and integration of renewable energy sources. However, this advancement has also increased vulnerability to cyber threats, particularly False Data Injection Attacks (FDIAs). Traditional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) often fall short in identifying sophisticated FDIAs due to their reliance on predefined rules and signatures.

Despite extensive experience with influenza surveillance in humans in Senegal, there is limited knowledge about the actual situation and genetic diversity of avian influenza viruses (AIVs) circulating in the country, hindering control measures and pandemic risk assessment. Therefore, as part of the "One Health" approach to influenza surveillance, we conducted active AIV surveillance in two live bird markets (LBMs) in Dakar to better understand the dynamics and diversity of influenza viruses in Senegal, obtain genetic profiles of circulating AIVs, and assess the risk of emergence of novel strains and their transmission to humans. Cloacal swabs from poultry and environmental samples collected weekly from the two LBMs were screened by RT-qPCR for H5, H7, and H9 AIVs.

Smart textiles provide a significant technological advancement, but their development must balance traditional textile properties with electronic features. To address this challenge, this study introduces a flexible, electrically conductive composite material that can be fabricated using a continuous bi-component extrusion process, making it ideal for sensor electrodes. The primary aim was to create a composite for the filament's core, combining multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), polypropylene (PP), and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), optimised for conductivity and flexibility.
