The Yellow River Estuary (YRE) is one of highly remarkable regions profoundly impacted by human activities, with numerous oil platforms dispersed throughout. In this area, offshore oil exploitation may pose significant ecological risks. To comprehensively evaluate the quantitative impacts of oil field exploitation on the marine coastal ecosystem, this study investigated the occurrence, sources, and ecological risks associated with 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in seawater and sediment near oil platforms in the YRE. We found that 1) The concentrations of PAHs decreased from the surface seawater to sediments; 2) The ecological risk level of PAHs in seawater exceeded that in sediments; 3) terrestrial sources (combustion), rather than offshore oil drilling activities, significantly influenced regional ecological risks through processes of atmospheric deposition and surface runoff. These findings provide essential data for future estuarine research efforts while supporting mitigation measures aimed at addressing marine environmental pollution related to oil production activities.

The fate of the pollutants in aquatic environment is closely related to colloids, and the carrier effect of colloids on pollutants not only affects their bioaccumulation, but may also affect their toxicity. In this study, the effects of natural colloid with different components on the biological toxicity of benzophenone-3 (BP3) to zebrafish larvae (Diano rerio) were studied. BP3 caused oxidative stress damage, thyroid system disorders and neurotoxicity in zebrafish larvae.

Sulfur-oxidizing bacteria (SOB) play a vital role in the occurrence of sulfur oxidation intermediate (SOI) compounds often recalcitrant to currently available, abiotic treatment within metal mine tailings impoundments (TI). As inadvertent SOI discharge post-treatment can lead to the uncontrolled acidification of receiving environments, it becomes increasingly important to elucidate the environmental controls on SOB identities and sulfur cycling within these relatively unstudied systems. Here, results identified controlling factors on SOB community differentiation and associated metabolic pathway occurrence through integrated physicochemical, geochemical, and microbial field and experimental investigation across three summers (2016, 2017, 2021) in a stratified Northern Ontario base metal TI.

Background: In order to gain a deepened understanding of the impact of public health emergency and to develop effective interventions and preventions, this study aimed to evaluate risk and protective factors associated with anxiety in children and adolescents and to explore potential moderators in the background of COVID-19 within the framework of socio-ecological model.
Methods: A literature search was conducted in Web of Science, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, Emerald, and CNKI for studies published from early 2020 to early 2023 that examined factors associated with anxiety among children and adolescents with age range of 6 to 17 years old. Random effects models and a three-level meta-analytic approach were used.

Shipboard domestic sewage, encompassing both black water and gray water, has the potential to transport significant quantities of environmentally harmful microplastics, a concern that has garnered increasing global attention. In this study, Fourier infrared (FTIR) detection was used to detect microplastics in marine domestic wastewater. The primary objective was to evaluate the abundance and characteristics of microplastics present in ship domestic sewage, investigate potential sources and influencing factors, and assess the ecological risks associated with ship sewage through analyses of microplastic abundance and hazard indices.

Given the environmental and ecological risks posed by wastewater bearing Mo, the characteristics and microscopic interactions of existing silica-based adsorbents have not been thoroughly investigated, highlighting the need to enhance the porosity and chemical interactions of these materials. Considering the effectiveness of amino groups in binding metal oxyanions, this study investigates the adsorption performance and mechanism of amino-functionalized MCM-41 for Mo(VI), with the goal of efficiently remediating Mo-contaminated wastewater. MCM-41 modified by amino group retains its original structure and mesoporous characteristics while featuring a positively charged surface and chemically bonded amino groups.
