Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of traditional medicine that provides treatments for a wide range of acute and chronic health problems. It is a common myth amongst people that Ayurvedic drugs have no side effects, whereas the fact is that these drugs can cause adverse effects. Despite their wide use, the safety data of many Ayurvedic formulations are still unavailable. is an Ayurvedic formulation traditionally claimed for iron deficiency anemia in pregnant and non-pregnant patients. However, no scientific study has been conducted to evaluate its oral toxicity. Hence, the present study evaluated the acute and subacute oral toxicity of the according to the OECD test guidelines 425 and 407, respectively. did not cause mortality nor any signs of toxicity when given once orally at a dose of 2000 mg/kg. Subacute toxicity study showed no mortality as well as no behavioral, hematological, biochemical and histopathological abnormalities in rats treated with formulation at 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg for 28 days. It is concluded that the is safe at a single dose of 2000 mg/kg and 28 days repeated dose of 1000 mg/kg by oral route in rats.

Bacteriocin can effectively improve the gut inflammation for their superior antibacterial activity. However, its inherent attributes, such as easily degraded and off-target effect in the gastrointestinal environment, make bacteriocins' efficient oral delivery a great challenge. Herein, a pectin/4-carboxyphenylboric acid/carboxymethyl chitosan (PEC/CPBA/CMCS) hydrogel microbead targeted oral delivery system was innovatively developed for the plantaricin RX-8 protective delivery, precisely targeted inflammatory microenvironment (IME) and sustained released plantaricin RX-8 by pH/ROS dual stimulation response.

2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is an important environmental pollutant that disturbs the immune balance of the maternal-fetal interface (MFI) and is also a common environmental factor for the formation of cleft palate (CP). Therefore, the purpose is to investigate whether TCDD can cause CP by disrupting the immune balance of the maternal-fetal interface. Fifteen C57BL/6J mice were randomly assigned to three groups: control group, TCDD group, and TCDD plus Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA) (TCDD + FCA) group.

The purpose of this review is to better characterize the contribution and properties of FDA-approved drugs that can be found unmodified in nature. Defined inclusion criteria were applied to drugs identified in previous studies and in annual FDA approval reports to compile a comprehensive list of approved drugs found in nature. Databases and scientific literature were searched to identify chemical and drug properties of these entities, including chemical classes, approval years, drug indications, and approved delivery methods.
