Phase transition usually consumes or releases energy to produce cooling or heating within different materials, providing a generalized framework for temperature regulation in practical applications. Because of the strong coupling between the enthalpy change in thermodynamics and heat-mass transfer kinetics, unveiling the mechanism of temperature regulation via the phase transition remains a great challenge. Here, we develop a new theoretical method by establishing a connection of enthalpy change from thermodynamics to phase transition dynamics to study evaporation-induced cooling as an example. Our new approach can spontaneously generate evaporative cooling at interfaces, and the predicted results are consistent with recent experiments. The evaporation-induced steady vapor is dictated by an anomalous cold-to-hot mass transfer through temperature-dependent chemical potentials, which enables temperature regulation inside liquids via a thermodynamic-kinetic interplay. Moreover, we show that a simple prohibition of heat exchange between liquids and reservoir can greatly enhance the cooling magnitude by a factor of 2∼4, which is highly dependent on the thermodynamics and kinetic coefficients of liquids. Our new method paves the way for exploration of cooling or heating induced by different phase transitions, such as evaporation, sublimation, or condensation, in a unified framework, which can significantly promote the development of temperature regulation by phase transitions.

Scaffolding and Heavy-Atom Effects of Metal Chains Enhanced Tunable Long Persistent Luminescence in Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Chemical Additives for China National Light Industry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi'an 710021, China.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with long persistent luminescence (LPL) have attracted extensive research attention due to their potential applications in information encryption, anticounterfeiting technology, and security logic. The strategic combinations of organic phosphor linkers and metal ions lead to tremendous frameworks, which could unveil many undiscovered properties of organics. Here, the synthesis and characterization of a three-dimensional MOF (Cd-MOF) is reported, which demonstrates enhanced blue photoluminescence and a phosphorescent lifetime of 124 ms as compared to the pristine linker (HL) under ambient conditions due to the scaffolding and heavy-atom effects of metal chains in the framework.

A new prediction model based on deep learning for pig house environment.

School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Qiqihar University, Qiqihar, 161006, China.

A prediction model of the pig house environment based on Bayesian optimization (BO), squeeze and excitation block (SE), convolutional neural network (CNN) and gated recurrent unit (GRU) is proposed to improve the prediction accuracy and animal welfare and take control measures in advance. To ensure the optimal model configuration, the model uses a BO algorithm to fine-tune hyper-parameters, such as the number of GRUs, initial learning rate and L2 normal form regularization factor. The environmental data are fed into the SE-CNN block, which extracts the local features of the data through convolutional operations.

Climate change and human activities are the primary drivers influencing changes in runoff dynamics. However, current understanding of future hydrological processes under scenarios of gradual climate change and escalating human activities remains uncertain, particularly in tropical regions affected by deforestation. Based on this, we employed the SWAT model coupled with the near future (2021-2040) and middle future (2041-2060) global climate models (GCMs) under four shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP1-2.

This study investigated the impact of multiple nerve block methods (local anesthesia, conventional radiofrequency thermocoagulation [CRF], and pulsed radiofrequency [PRF]) on thermoregulation. Focusing on hypothalamic function, the effects of local anesthesia, CRF, and PRF on central and peripheral temperatures were analyzed and compared. Our findings revealed that all three nerve block groups cause a decrease in central temperature, with the CRF group exhibiting the most pronounced effect.
