Objective And Significance: Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) plays a pivotal role in breast development by modulating tissue composition during the developmental phase. The TGFβ type II receptor (TGFβ RII) is implicated in breast cancer and represents a valuable therapeutic target. Due to the off-target side effects of many existing TGFβI/TGFβ RII inhibitors, a more targeted approach to drug discovery is necessary.

Institut de Recherche en Santé, Environnement et Travail (Irset)─Inserm─EHESP, UMR_S 1085, Université de Rennes, 9 av. du Professeur Léon Bernard, F-35042 Rennes, France.

Amyloidosis is a group of proteinopathies characterized by the systemic or organ-specific deposition of proteins in the form of amyloid fibers. Nearly 40 proteins play a role in these pathologies, and the structures of the associated fibers are beginning to be determined by Cryo-EM. However, the molecular events underlying the process, such as fiber nucleation and elongation, are poorly understood, which impairs developing efficient therapies.

Metabolomics and proteomics: synergistic tools for understanding snake venom inhibition.

Arch Toxicol

January 2025

Department of Integrative Biology, School of Bioscience and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, 632014, Tamil Nadu, India.

Snake envenomation presents a significant global health challenge, especially in rural areas of tropical and subtropical regions. Traditional antivenom therapies face limitations related to efficacy, availability, and specificity, prompting a need for novel approaches. Recent advancements in omics technologies, particularly metabolomics and proteomics, have enhanced our understanding of snake venom composition, toxicity, and potential therapeutic strategies.

Novel technologies for the diagnosis of urinary tract infections.

J Clin Microbiol

January 2025

Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) impose a substantial burden on patient quality of life and urine testing accounts for the majority of workload in many clinical microbiology laboratories. Traditional UTI diagnosis relies on symptoms, urinalysis, and culture which are interpreted based on historical guidelines. This approach, while foundational, presents limitations, particularly in complex cases.
