Background: Rhinoplasty is conducted to address both cosmetic and functional objectives. It is not merely a cosmetic procedure, as it frequently aims to improve function by enhancing nasal breathing and removing congenital or acquired obstructions. The current study aims to determine the functional, cosmetic, and psychological outcomes of rhinoplasties.

Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The data were collected using an interview and an online Google form. A chi-square test was used to determine the relationship between qualitative variables and quantitative variables using frequency, percentage, and mean for quantitative variables. Each variable's value is used to detect statistical significance. The significance level was set at a value of less than 0.05.

Results: Of the 234 patients enrolled in this study, 69.2% were women, whereas 30.8% were men, with a mean age of 22.86 ± 4.546 years. In terms of satisfaction, functional satisfaction accounted for about 59% of all satisfaction, cosmetic satisfaction was 63.2%, and psychological satisfaction was 70.9%. The primary reason for surgery was cosmetic (45%).

Conclusion: The majority of enrolled participants were satisfied with their functional outcomes, whereas their satisfaction with psychological and cosmetic outcomes was moderate.

Background: Cochlear implants (CI) with off-the-ear (OTE) and behind-the-ear (BTE) speech processors differ in user experience and audiological performance, impacting speech perception, comfort, and satisfaction.

Objectives: This systematic review explores audiological outcomes (speech perception in quiet and noise) and non-audiological factors (device handling, comfort, cosmetics, overall satisfaction) of OTE and BTE speech processors in CI recipients.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review following PRISMA-S guidelines, examining Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses.

Microbes as Resources to Remove PPCPs and Improve Water Quality.

Microb Biotechnol

January 2025

Laboratory of Microbiology, Institute of Biology, University of Neuchatel, Neuchatel, Switzerland.

The inadequate removal of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) by traditional wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) poses a significant environmental and public health challenge. Residual PPCPs find their way into aquatic ecosystems, leading to bioaccumulation in aquatic biota, the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and contamination of both water sources and vegetables. These persistent pollutants can have negative effects on human health, ranging from antibiotic resistance development to endocrine disruption.

Astaxanthin (ASX), "king of carotenoids", is a xanthophyll carotenoid that is characterized by a distinct reddish-orange hue, procured from diverse sources including plants, microalgae, fungi, yeast, and lichens. It exhibits potent antioxidant and anti-ageing properties and has been demonstrated to mitigate ultraviolet-induced cellular and DNA damage, enhance immune system function, and improve cardiovascular diseases. Despite its broad utilization across nutraceutical, cosmetic, aquaculture, and pharmaceutical sectors, the large-scale production and application of ASX are constrained by the limited availability of natural sources, low production yields and stringent production requirements.
