Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate (NAD(P)H) plays an important role in numerous biologically significant redox reactions. The photochemical restoration of its oxidized form (NAD(P)) under physiological conditions is intriguing in the context of integrated photo and catalysis. Herein, we report the functionalized graphitic carbon-based solar light active photocatalyst by doping boron and fluorine in the native graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) (nonfunctionalized) for the regeneration of enzymatically visible light active coenzyme and in photo-acetalization reactions. The metal-free functionalized photocatalyst systems such as BFGCN-x leads to higher yield NADH and NADPH regeneration. They are also capable of catalyzing acetal reactions in the absence of any Lewis and Bronsted acids. The current research endeavor provides the advancement and the application of functionalized GCN-based photocatalysts for NADH (61.89%), NADPH (59.84%) regeneration, and photo-acetalization reactions.

Semiconductor-metal hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) are promising materials for photocatalytic applications, such as water splitting for green hydrogen generation. While most studies have focused on Cd containing HNPs, the realization of actual applications will require environmentally compatible systems. Using heavy-metal free ZnSe-Au HNPs as a model, we investigate the dependence of their functionality and efficiency on the cocatalyst metal domain characteristics ranging from the single-atom catalyst (SAC) regime to metal-tipped systems.

Distortions in the porphyrin core from planarity can trigger a unique structure-property relationship, imparting its basicity, chemical stability, redox potential, and excited-state energetics, among other properties. The colour change promoted by such distortion is signed by red shifts in its electronic absorption spectra. The adsorption of guest -substituted free-base porphyrin species onto inorganic hosts, such as clay minerals (layered aluminium or magnesium silicates), is known to further promote colour changes.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered one of the most valuable diagnostic technologies in the 21st century. To enhance the image contrast of anatomical features, MRI contrast agents have been widely used in clinical MRI diagnosis, especially those based on gadolinium, manganese, and iron oxide. However, these metal-based MRI contrast agents show potential toxicity to patients, which urges researchers to develop novel MRI contrast agents that can replace metal-based MRI contrast agents.

College of Materials, Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Chengdu University of Technology, Chengdu 610059, China.

Due to the special structure and physicochemical properties of sulfoximines, research on sulfoximines has achieved great progress in recent decades, especially in chemical and medicinal fields. This review highlights recent advancements in the N-functionalization of NH-sulfoximines, focusing on classical cross-coupling reactions with electrophilic agents and oxidative coupling reactions with extensive organic compounds, including specific (hetero)arenes, alkenes (1,4-naphthoquinones), alkanes (cyclohexanes), nucleophiles (thiols, disulfides, sulfinates, diarylphosphine oxides), organyl boronic acids, and arylhydrazines. Transition metal-catalyzed, metal-free, electrochemical and radical oxidative coupling reactions are discussed.

A convenient and efficient transition-metal-free method has been developed for the C(sp)-H alkoxylation/aryloxylation of 1,4-quinones by direct cross-dehydrogenative coupling with readily available alcohols and phenols in the presence of TEMPO under simple and mild conditions. The method allowed the installation of a wide range of alkoxy/aryloxy groups, exhibited high functional group tolerance, showed a broad substrate scope, afforded good to excellent yields of products in a simple one-pot operation, and could be performed on a gram scale. Mechanistic investigation indicated the involvement of the radical pathway.
