Targeting lipid metabolism: novel insights and therapeutic advances in pancreatic cancer treatment.

Lipids Health Dis

January 2025

Emergency surgery Dapartment (Trauma center), The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Clinical Medicine, Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang, 471003, Henan, China.

Lipid metabolism in cancer is characterized by dysregulated lipid regulation and utilization, critical for promoting tumor growth, survival, and resistance to therapy. Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a highly aggressive malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract that has a dismal 5-year survival rate of less than 10%. Given the essential function of the pancreas in digestion, cancer progression severely disrupts its function.

Growth of microbes in competitive lifestyles promotes increased ARGs in soil microbiota: insights based on genetic traits.

Microbiome

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Environment Remediation and Ecological Health, Ministry of Education, College of Environmental and Resource Sciences, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310058, China.

Background: The widespread selective pressure of antibiotics in the environment has led to the propagation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). However, the mechanisms by which microbes balance population growth with the enrichment of ARGs remain poorly understood. To address this, we employed microcosm cultivation at different antibiotic (i.

RNA-Targeting CRISPR/CasRx system relieves disease symptoms in Huntington's disease models.

Mol Neurodegener

January 2025

Guangdong Key Laboratory of Non-Human Primate Research, Key Laboratory of CNS Regeneration (Ministry of Education), School of Medicine, GHM Institute of CNS Regeneration, Jinan University, Guangzhou, 510632, China.

Background: HD is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder caused by the expansion of CAG repeats in the HTT. Silencing the expression of mutated proteins is a therapeutic direction to rescue HD patients, and recent advances in gene editing technology such as CRISPR/CasRx have opened up new avenues for therapeutic intervention.

Methods: The CRISPR/CasRx system was employed to target human HTT exon 1, resulting in an efficient knockdown of HTT mRNA.

Evidence Communication Rules for Policy (ECR-P) critical appraisal tool.

January 2025

Statistical Laboratory, Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK.

Background: Scientific papers increasingly put forward scientific-based policy recommendations (SPRs) as a means of closing the circle of science, policy and practice. Assessing the quality of such SPRs is crucial, especially within the context of a systematic review. Here, we present ECR-P (Evidence Communication Rules for Policy)-a critical appraisal tool that we have developed, which can be used in assessing not only the quality of SPRs but also the quality of their evidence base and how effectively these have both been communicated.

Background: The deteriorating mental health of children and young people in the United Kingdom poses a challenge that services and policy makers have found difficult to tackle. Kailo responds to this issue with a community-based participatory and systemically informed strategy, perceiving mental health and well-being as a dynamic state shaped by the interplay of broader health determinants. The initiative works to explore, define and implement locally relevant solutions to challenges shaping the mental health and well-being of young people.
