Complications accompanying photocatalyst stability and recombination of exciton charges in pollutants degradation has been addressed through the construction of heterojunctions, especially S-scheme heterojunction with strong and distinctive redox centres. Herein, an S-scheme BiOBr (BOR) and g-CNPO (CNPO) catalyst (BORCNPO) with oxygen vacancy (Ov) was synthesized for levofloxacin (LVX) and oxytetracycline (OTC) photodegradation under visible light. The 3D/3D BORCNPO catalyst possessed C-O-Br bridging bonds for efficient charge transfer during the fabrication of S-scheme heterojunction. In-situ HO formation affirmed by potassium titanium (IV) oxalate spectrophotometric method improved the mineralization ability of BORCNPO7.5 catalyst. Bi surface plasmon resonance (SPR) enhanced formation and involvement of ⋅O and the stability of the catalyst which increased reaction rate with increasing cycling experiments. XPS and radical trapping experiments supported the S-scheme charge transfer mechanism formation with high degradation rate of LVX which was 3 times higher than OTC degradation rate. Mineralization of pollutants and their intermediates were demonstrated with florescence excitation and emission matrix (FEEM) and quadruple time of flight high performance liquid chromatography (QTOF-HPLC). This work advances development of highly stable and efficient catalysts for photodegradation of pollutants through the formation of S-scheme heterostructure.

Highly efficient photocatalysts for degrading persistent antibiotics and synthetic dye pollutants under visible light are crucial for sustainable environmental remediation. In this study, we engineered a novel BiMoO (BMO)/NiAl-LDH (layered double hydroxide) hybrid catalyst with a unique 2D/2D heterostructure, optimized for the visible-light-driven elimination of ciprofloxacin (CPF) and hazardous synthetic dyes such as rhodamine B and methylene blue. The optimized BMO-30/LDH hybrid demonstrated exceptional photocatalytic performance, achieving nearly complete degradation of CPF and synthetic dyes with high mineralization efficiency, surpassing many previously reported state-of-the-art photocatalysts.

Photocatalysis has garnered significant attention as a sustainable approach for energy conversion and environmental management. 2D black phosphorus (BP) has emerged as a highly promising semiconductor photocatalyst owing to its distinctive properties. However, inherent issues such as rapid recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes severely impede the photocatalytic efficacy of single BP.

As a novel carbon-based material with two-dimensional (2D) characteristics, graphdiyne (GDY) shows great potential in constructing active catalytic sites due to its distinctive atomic configuration and sp/sp conjugated hybrid two-dimensional networks. In this study, the layered GDY was synthesized using the ball milling method, and ZnCdS/Graphdiyne/NiO (ZnCdS/GDY/NiO) composite was synthesized by in-situ composite and physical mixing method. The prepared ZnCdS/GDY/NiO has good photostability outstanding performance in photocatalytic hydrogen production.

The study presents the fabrication and superior photoactivity of a ternary g-CN/FeVO/AgBr heterojunction nanocomposite, synthesized via a chemical precipitation method for effective degradation of tetracycline (TC) and Victoria Blue (VB) dye under light illumination. The morphology and the crystal size of the synthesized nanocomposite were characterized by using FESEM and XRD and the calculated grain size (100.39 nm) is larger than the crystal size (48.

Although self-polarized piezoelectric semiconductor photocatalysts significantly enhance the separation of internally generated photocarriers, their photocatalytic performance is constrained by insufficient internal polarisation and a wide bandgap. Additionally, the low concentration of oxygen in contaminated water limits the effectiveness of such photocatalysts. To the best of our knowledge, this study was the first to determine that the piezoelectric properties of BiMoO (BMO), was due to the polarisation displacement of the MoO octahedron that occurred along the x-axis, as revealed through density functional theory (DFT) calculations.
