Objectives: We aimed to evaluate the drug utilization of extract (Gbe), systemic corticosteroids (CSs), and pentoxifylline (PTXF) for the treatment of acute tinnitus by analyzing electronic patient health record data. In addition, we assessed whether the different drug treatments were associated with different frequencies of repeat visits to ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study used data from the IQVIA Disease Analyzer (DA) database. It included patients with an initial diagnosis of tinnitus between January 2005 and December 2021, treated by ENT specialists in Germany.

Results: Of 111,629 patients meeting all selection criteria, 51,205 received prescriptions of Gbe, 34,817 of systemic CSs, and 25,607 of PTXF. Gbe prescription was associated with significantly lower odds of a repeat consultation due to tinnitus compared to systemic CSs [odds ratio (OR) 0.91; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.88-0.95] as well as PTXF (OR 0.74; 95% CI: 0.72-0.77). This association was significant in both men and women and in some age groups.

Conclusion: Gbe is the most frequently ENT specialist-prescribed drug for the treatment of acute tinnitus. It is associated with a reduced likelihood of patients consulting their ENT specialist for tinnitus again compared to systemic CSs and PTXF.

Introduction: Utilization of neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NAT) prior to radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is inconsistent, and optimal patient selection for NAT is unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical benefit of NAT in high grade UTUC undergoing RNU.

Materials And Methods: The UTUC Collaborative Network (UCAN) identified patients who underwent RNU for high grade UTUC between 2000 and 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to analyze how common surgically induced chronic kidney disease (CKD-S) is in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) after they undergo radical nephroureterectomy (RNU), focusing on survival outcomes.* -
  • Researchers looked at data from 1,862 patients and found that 34.7% developed CKD-S3a and 39.6% developed CKD-S3b after surgery, with older age, lower preoperative kidney function, and certain chemotherapy treatments linked to higher risks of developing CKD-S3b.* -
  • The study revealed that while CKD-S3b patients had worse overall survival rates (59% over 5 years), CK

Objective: To define the natural history, patterns of recurrence and treatment modalities for local prostate cancer (PCa) recurrence following radical prostatectomy (RP) and radiation therapy (RT), and to investigate factors that could predict metastasis-free survival (MFS) in this unique patient population.

Methods: We queried a prospectively maintained PCa registry to identify men developing in-field recurrence (IFR) following RP and RT from 2008 to 2021 at a single institution. IFR was defined as biopsy-proven recurrent PCa or the presence of persistent positron emission tomography-avid lesions in the prior radiation field without evidence of metastasis.

Introduction: The use of axillary marking prior to Neoadjuvant Systemic Therapy (NST) is a controversial matter regarding patients with positive Lymph Nodes (LN). Several methods were tested to make possible the decrease of false negative rate in comparison to sentinel lymph node adding more accuracy to the results. This study aims to evaluate the oncological outcomes in patients who had undergone selective axillary dissection with 4% carbon marking before TSN.

Background: In patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), sites of metastatic involvement have been reported to be associated with a difference in survival. However, the frequency and survival according to different sites of metastases in Korean patients with mRCC remain unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the frequency of metastatic site involvement and the association between sites of metastatic involvement and survival in Korean patients with mRCC.
