Background: Sialyllacto-N-tetraose b (LSTb) is a component of human milk oligosaccharides. Due to its low concentration, the impact of LSTb on neurodevelopment remains largely unexplored. It is worth studying whether LSTb should be added to infant formula to simulate breast milk. This study aimed to investigate the effect of LSTb on the development of motor neurons of the central nervous system using a transgenic zebrafish model.
Methods: Transgenic (Tg) zebrafish line (Hb9:GFP) was incubated with LSTb, and the axonal growth of caudal primary (CaP) neurons was assessed. Locomotor behavior was evaluated, and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The expression of and , genes involved in axon guidance, was further analyzed through real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) and whole-mount hybridization.
Results: There was a significant increase in the number and length of CaP axon branches, suggesting that LSTb promotes CaP development. Behavioral analysis revealed enhanced locomotor activity in LSTb-treated larvae, indicating improved motor function. RNA-seq analysis identified 5,847 DEGs related to central nervous system neuron differentiation, including and , which are known to contribute to axon guidance. In situ hybridization confirmed increased expression in the central nervous system of LSTb-treated larvae.
Conclusions: LSTb significantly influences motor neuron development, potentially through the upregulation of and . This research provides valuable insights into the role of LSTb in neurodevelopment.

Objective: Marine fishing ranks among the most hazardous occupations globally, with risks intensifying for small-sized vessels venturing deeper into the sea due to the scarcity of near-shore fish and high market demand. This study identifies various occupational hazards and the use of safety equipment among small-scale motorized fishers using traditional fishing methods in the southernmost coastal regions of India.
Methods: The primary data were collected from 253 artisanal small-scale motorized fishers through a multi-stage stratified random sampling method.

Within the global population, depression and anxiety are common among older adults. Tai Chi is believed to have a positive impact on these disturbances. This study examined the network structures of depression and anxiety among older Tai Chi practitioners vs non-practitioners.

There is a complex interplay between the gut microbes, liver, and central nervous system, a gut-liver-brain axis, where the brain impacts intestinal and hepatic function while the gut and liver can impact cognition and mental status. Dysregulation of this axis can be seen in numerous diseases. Hepatic encephalopathy, a consequence of cirrhosis, is perhaps the best studied perturbation of this system.

Background: Ependymoma with lipomatous differentiation is a rare type of ependymoma. The ZFTA fusion-positive supratentorial ependymoma is a novel tumor type in the 2021 World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors. ZFTA fusion-positive lipomatous ependymoma has not been reported to date.

Neprilysin (NEP), a zinc-dependent membrane-bound metallopeptidase, regulates various bioactive peptides, particularly in kidneys, vascular endothelium, and the central nervous system. NEP's involvement in metabolizing natriuretic peptides, insulin, and enkephalins makes it a promising target for treating cardiovascular and Alzheimer's diseases. Several NEP inhibitors, such as sacubitril and omapatrilat, have been approved for clinical use, which inhibit NEP activity to prolong the bioactivity of beneficial peptides, thereby exerting therapeutic effects.
