Septal extension grafts (SEGs) can increase projection. However, it requires a large amount of graft and can result in a frozen tip. Thus, this study introduces a modified SEG, called a partial SEG. Partial SEGs minimize the amount of graft material requirement, avoid the occurrence of frozen tips, and increase nasal tip projection. This method is comparable to the fixed-mobile SEG (Rohrich et al. in Plast Reconstr Surg 149: 1350-1356, 2022) and anterior nasal septal angle (ANSA) banner (Neves and Tagle in Ann Plast Reconstr Surg 4(3): 1059, 2020); however, unlike those techniques, the tip is not sutured to the graft and the alar complex is not fixed, allowing free movement of the nasal tip within its anatomical limits. To further prevent long-term displacement or minimize loss of nasal tip projection, a method of fixing the graft with Prolene and a third end-to-end SEG method for preventing sliding between grafts were used, which was also effective. Among the patients who underwent surgery between September 2019 and September 2023, 238 were followed up for over 6 months. Most patients were satisfied with the natural and flexible nature of the nasal tip. In conclusion, the alar wrap around a slender SEG technique can be an option for who want a flexible nasal tip that is projected adequately rather than excessively.Level of Evidence IV This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. When a difficult airway is anticipated, awake tracheal intubation can be considered. Usually, low doses of sedatives are administered during this procedure for minimal sedation and anxiolysis, such as midazolam and remifentanil. The newly developed ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine remimazolam has a pharmacokinetic profile that is more suitable for titration during awake tracheal intubation than the long-acting midazolam.

Saline Lavage for Sampling of the Canine Nasal Immune Microenvironment.

J Vis Exp

December 2024

Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Colorado State University.

Evaluating the local immune microenvironment of the canine nasal cavity can be important for investigating normal tissue health and disease conditions, particularly those associated with local inflammation. We have optimized a technique to evaluate the local nasal immune microenvironment of dogs via serial nasal lavage. Briefly, with dogs under anesthesia and positioned in sternal recumbency, prewarmed sterile saline is flushed into the affected nostril using a flexible soft rubber catheter.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is often severe, debilitating and difficult to treat. Recent randomised control trials (RCTs) of biologics that target key inflammatory pathways have demonstrated clinical efficacy in treating CRSwNP. Such RCTs must facilitate meta-analysis.

Electronic skin is widely employed in multiple applications such as health monitoring, robot tactile perception, and bionic prosthetics. In this study, we fabricated millimeter-scale electronic skin featuring compact sensing units using the Boston Micro Fabrication S130 (a high-precision additive manufacturing device) and the template removal method. We used a gallium-based liquid metal and achieved an inner channel diameter of 0.

We have executed a cost-effective approach to produce a high-performance multifunctional human-machine interface (HMI) humidity sensor. The designed sensors were ecofriendly, flexible, and highly sensitive to variability in relative humidity (%RH) in the surroundings. In this study, we have introduced a humidity sensor by using carbon paper (as both a substrate and sensing material) and a silver (Ag) conductive ink pen.
