This article presents the authors' perspectives on modelling best practices for nature-based solutions (NBS). The authors led a workshop on NBS modelling as part of the 8th IWA Water Resource Recovery Modelling Seminar (WRRmod2022+) in January 2023, where the discussion centred around the design, use cases, and potential applications of NBS models. Four real-world case studies, encompassing an aerated lagoon, a biofilm-enhanced aerated lagoon, a stormwater basin, and a constructed wetland were reviewed to demonstrate practical applications and challenges in modelling NBS systems. The initial proposed modelling framework was derived from these case studies and encompassed eight sub-models used for these NBS types. The framework was subsequently extended to include eight additional NBS categories, requiring a total of 10 sub-models. In a subsequent step, with a different perspective, the framework was refined to focus on 13 primary use cases of NBS, identifying 10 sub-models needed or potentially required for these specific NBS applications. These frameworks help to identify the necessary sub-models for the NBS system at hand or the use case. This article also discusses the benefits and challenges of applying water resource recovery modelling best practices to NBS, along with recommendations for future research in this area

Purpose: To enhance the detection rate of Neonatal Intrahepatic Cholestasis caused by Citrin Deficiency (NICCD) through newborn screening (NBS), we analyzed the metabolic profiles of missed patients and proposed a more reliable method for early diagnosis.
Methods: In this retrospective study, NICCD patients were classified into "Newborn Screening" (64 individuals) and "Missed Screening" (52 individuals) groups. Metabolic profiles were analyzed using the non-derivatized MS/MS Kit, and genetic mutations were identified via next-generation sequencing and confirmed by Sanger sequencing.

Classical radiation biology as we understand it clearly identifies genomic DNA as the primary target of ionizing radiation. The evidence appears rock-solid: ionizing radiation typically induces DSBs with a yield of ~30 per cell per Gy, and unrepaired DSBs are a very cytotoxic lesion. We know very well the kinetics of induction and repair of different types of DNA damage in different organisms and cell lines.

The efficient recovery of fine argentite from polymetallic lead-zinc (Pb-Zn) sulfide ore is challenging. This study investigated nanobubble (NB) adsorption on the argentite surface and its role in enhancing fine argentite flotation using various analytical techniques, including contact angle measurements, adsorption capacity analysis, infrared spectroscopy, zeta potential measurements, turbidity tests, microscopic imaging, scanning electron microscopy, and flotation experiments. Results indicated that the NBs exhibited long-term stability and were adsorbed onto the argentite surface, thereby enhancing surface hydrophobicity, reducing electrostatic repulsion between fine argentite particles, and promoting particle agglomeration.
