AI Article Synopsis

  • This study investigates a specific genus of fungi found in Pakistan, focusing on samples collected from the Punjab plains between 2016 and 2022.
  • Fungal specimens from the family Psathyrellaceae were analyzed using traditional morphology and multigene phylogenetic methods, leading to the identification of four new species within the genus.
  • The research expands the total number of species in the genus from 43 to 47 and includes comprehensive descriptions, phylogenetic analyses, comparisons, and illustrations of the newly identified taxa.

Article Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the genus from Pakistan. Fungal surveys were conducted in different sites of the Punjab plains during the 2016-2022 period. Several specimens belonging to the family Psathyrellaceae were collected. Traditional morphology and multigene phylogenetic analyses confirmed the novelty and placement of the species in genus . The phylogenetic study of the nuc rDNA internal transcribed spacer ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 (ITS) and partial 28S rRNA regions confirmed the distinct positions of four new taxa, , and , in the genus. Currently, the genus consists of 43 species worldwide. However, with the inclusion of these four species, the total number has risen to 47. Detailed descriptions, phylogeny, comparisons, and illustrations are provided.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the efficacy and safety of different hormonal therapies for treating infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) in South Asia, focusing on randomized clinical trials published until April 2024.
  • Nine studies involving 566 children were included, with results showing that dexamethasone, high-dose adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and high-dose prednisolone were more effective at stopping spasms than low-dose ACTH after two weeks.
  • Safety outcomes indicated that lower rates of hypertension were observed with low-dose ACTH and high-dose prednisolone compared to high-dose ACTH, suggesting preferred first-choice therapies for IESS in the region.

Anticancer chemotherapies damage normal tissues, and various drug carriers are under consideration to address this issue. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising due to their drug-carrying capacity and tunable properties. Target-inspired surface functionalization may further magnify their potential.

Background And Purpose: This study aimed to improve the stability and prolonged gefitinib release from the nanoliposomes.

Experimental Approach: Nanoliposomes were prepared by reverse-phase evaporation and optimized using Box-Behnken design to investigate the influence of sonication time ( ), tween 80 / soya phosphatidylcholine ratio ( ), and cholesterol/soya phosphatidylcholine ratio ( ) on nanoliposomes.

Key Results: Optimized nanoliposomes were quasi-spherical shaped, with a mean dimension of 93.

Towards large-scale analyses of settlement patterns in urbanizing landscapes-findings of first studies for India, Egypt, and China.

Organic Plant Production and Agroecosystems Research in the Tropics and Subtropics, Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, University of Kassel, 37213, Witzenhausen, Germany.

Improved ability to assess and categorize the spatial characteristics of settlement patterns is required for a deeper understanding of how urbanization is driving land use and land cover transformation and its effects. Two approaches to the globally available settlement maps of the World Settlement Footprint 3D support a detailed assessment of spatial characteristics of settlement patterns in rural to urban landscapes and across scales: graph-based spatial network analysis and elements of fractal theory. Based on first comprehensive tests for the Punjab (India), the Nile Delta (Egypt) and the North China Plain, the results of our study suggest that the presented methods allow a quantitative and qualitative characterization and comparison of settlement patterns between different regions of the world.
