Nanoparticle manipulation requires careful analysis of the forces at play. Unfortunately, traditional force measurement techniques based on the particle velocity do not provide sufficient resolution, while balancing approaches involving counteracting forces are often cumbersome. Here, we demonstrate that a nanoparticle dielectrophoretic response can be quantitatively studied by a straightforward visual delineation of the dielectrophoretic trapping volume. We reveal this volume by detecting the width of the region depleted of gold nanoparticles by the dielectrophoretic force. Comparison of the measured widths for various nanoparticle sizes with numerical simulations obtained by solving the particle-conservation equation shows excellent agreement, thus providing access to the particle physical properties, such as polarizability and size. These findings can be further extended to investigate various types of nano-objects, including bio- and molecular aggregates, and offer a robust characterization tool that can enhance the control of matter at the nanoscale.

This study investigates the effects of homopolymer additives and kinetic traps on the self-assembly of poly(ethylene glycol)-b-poly(lactide) (PEG-PLA) block copolymer (BCP) nanostructures in aqueous environments. By using non-adsorbing PEG homopolymers to kinetically trap PEG-PLA nanostructures, we demonstrate that varying the concentration and molecular weight of the added PEG induces a reversible micelle-to-vesicle transition. This transition is primarily driven by changes in the molecular geometry of the PEG-PLA BCPs due to excluded volume screening effects.

The trypanosomosis remains unresolved due to its impact on various hosts, leading to production losses in Ethiopia. In the Southwest of Oromia, multiple livestock species share grazing land in tsetse-infested areas. Modern pulmonary imaging can reveal underlying pathological and pathophysiological changes in the lungs of people with asthma, with important clinical implications. A multitude of imaging modalities are now used to examine underlying structure/function relationships including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, optical coherence tomography, and endobronchial ultrasound. Imaging-based biomarkers from these techniques, including airway dimensions, blood vessel volumes, mucus scores, ventilation defect extent and air trapping extent, often have increased sensitivity compared to traditional lung function measurements, and are increasingly used as endpoints in clinical trials.
