Metabolic syndrome prediction based on body composition indices.

J Egypt Public Health Assoc

December 2024

Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, The Hashemite University, Zarqa, Jordan.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important public health issue that has been lately linked as a growing concern worldwide.

The Objective: To find out which anthropometric and body composition indices can prognosticate MetS in Jordanian adult females.

Methods: A sample of 656 Jordanian adult females was recruited (January-March 2024) in the middle of Jordan.

Multi-scale models in which varying resolutions are considered in a single molecular dynamics simulation setup are gaining importance in integrative modeling. However, combining atomistic and coarse-grain resolutions, especially for coarse-grain force fields derived from top-down approaches, have not been well explored. In this study, we have implemented and tested a dual-resolution simulation approach to model globular proteins in atomistic detail (represented by the CHARMM36 model) with the surrounding solvent in Martini2 coarse-grain detail.

Structure-activity relationship of modified amphiphilic cationic cyclodextrins for enhanced siRNA delivery.

Pharmacodelivery Group, School of Pharmacy, University College Cork, Cork T12 YN60, Ireland; Department of Haematology and Cancer Research@UCC, Cork University Hospital, University College Cork, Cork T12 XF62, Ireland. Electronic address:

The presence of multiple hydroxyl groups, at positions C2, C3 and C6 on the cyclodextrin (CD) ring structure allows for extensive functionalisation, enabling the development of biomaterials with significant potential for therapeutic siRNA delivery. To identify structural modifications that enhance activity, a range of cationic amphiphilic CDs, including both β- and γ-CDs, were synthesised, compared and evaluated. Each CDs incorporated a C lipid chain on the primary face of the CD.

Acute lung injury (ALI) and its severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), result from pulmonary edema and alveolar-capillary barrier disruption due to inflammation, often triggered by conditions like sepsis. Sepsis-induced ALI (SALI) involves extensive damage to vascular endothelium and alveolar epithelium, leading to respiratory failure. Our study explores ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death pathway, and calcium dysregulation in SALI.

Curcumin administration mitigates periodontitis-induced tissue damage in hypercholesterolemic rats: a natural preventive approach.

December 2024

Facultad de Odontología. Cátedra de Bioquímica General y Bucal., Universidad de Buenos Aires, Marcelo T. de Alvear 2142 12 B, (C1122 AAH), Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This study investigated the preventive effect of curcumin (CUR) on tooth-supporting structures in hypercholesterolemic (HC) rats with periodontitis (P). Wistar rats (8 weeks old) (n = 30) were assigned to six groups based on dietary intake, CUR-piperine combination treatment and P induction. P was induced in four groups using a ligature model.
