Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis is correlated with the membrane content of various lipid species, including cholesterol, whose interactions with amyloid precursor protein (APP) have been extensively explored. Amyloid-β peptides triggering AD are products of APP cleavage by secretases, which differ depending on the APP and secretase location relative to ordered or disordered membrane microdomains. We used high-resolution NMR to probe the interactions of the cholesterol analog with APP transmembrane domain in two membrane-mimicking systems resembling ordered or perturbed lipid environments (bicelles/micelles).

Background: The natural killer (NK) activity of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) is a crucial defense against the onset and spread of cancer. Studies have shown that patients with reduced NK activity are more susceptible to cancer, and NK activity tends to decrease due to cancer-induced immune suppression. Enhancing the natural cytotoxicity of PBMCs remains a significant task in cancer research.

Aims: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of cholesterol uptake genes in predicting the survival of breast cancer patients.

Background: Cholesterol plays a crucial role in the homeostasis of tumor cells. It is known that cholesterol levels can influence important parameters of the disease, such as sensitivity to therapy, progression, and metastasis of cancer.

Background: The transcription factor AP1 plays a crucial role in the proliferation, apoptosis, and terminal differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes.

Objective: This study aimed to clarify whether the subunit of AP1, FOSL1 protein, can be used to assess the exacerbation of psoriasis by evaluating its changes in protein and mRNA levels in cultured epidermal keratinocytes and skin specimens of the patients prescribed with bathwater PUVA (Psoralen and UVA) therapy. This study aimed to investigate FOSL1, a subunit of the transcription factor AP-1, as a potential biomarker for psoriasis by examining its protein and mRNA expression in skin specimens from patients undergoing bathwater PUVA (Psoralen and UVA) therapy and cultured epidermal keratinocytes.

Hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is a serious complication that worsens outcomes and increases mortality in patients with ischemic stroke (IS). HT can occur both spontaneously and after reperfusion therapy. Severe ischemic injury in IS is not sufficient in itself to cause HT; one of the key elements in its development is reperfusion.
