Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Ahmed glaucoma valve in pediatric patients with refractory glaucoma.

Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across multiple major databases, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews, Science Direct, China's National Knowledge Infrastructure, and the Wanfang database. We retrieved studies published before December 2022 that met the inclusion criteria, including clinical controlled trials (randomized controlled trials) and clinical noncontrolled trials (non-randomized controlled trials) on the use of Ahmed glaucoma valve in pediatric patients with refractory glaucoma.

Purpose: Rituximab has proven efficacy in children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS). However, vast majority of children inevitably experience relapse with B-cell repletion, necessitating repeat course of rituximab, which may increase the risk of adverse effects. The timing of additional dosing and optional dosing regimen of rituximab in pediatric patients with INS have yet to be determined.

Development of nucleic acid-based vaccines against dengue and other mosquito-borne flaviviruses: the past, present, and future.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Infectious Disease Research Department, King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University of Health Sciences, Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Due to their widespread geographic distribution and frequent outbreaks, mosquito-borne flaviviruses, such as DENV (DENV), Zika virus (ZIKV), Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), yellow fever virus (YFV), and West Nile virus (WNV), are considered significant global public health threats and contribute to dramatic socioeconomic imbalances worldwide. The global prevalence of these viruses is largely driven by extensive international travels and ecological disruptions that create favorable conditions for the breeding of and species, the mosquito vectors responsible for the spread of these pathogens. Currently, vaccines are available for only DENV, YFV, and JEV, but these face several challenges, including safety concerns, lengthy production processes, and logistical difficulties in distribution, especially in resource-limited regions, highlighting the urgent need for innovative vaccine approaches.

Oral cancer is a highly malignant disease characterized by recurrence, metastasis, and poor prognosis. Autophagy, a catabolic process induced under stress conditions, has been shown to play a dual role in oral cancer development and therapy. Recent studies have identified that autophagy activation in oral epithelial cells suppresses cancer cell survival by inhibiting key pathways such as the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), while activating the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway.

Discovery of a common light chain bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and PD-L1 by Hybridoma-to-Phage-to-Yeast (H2PtY) platform.

Antib Ther

January 2025

Biologics Innovation Institute, Shanghai Jemincare Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Lane 535, Huanqiao Road, Pudong New Area, Shanghai 201315, China.

Background: Therapeutic antibody drugs targeting the PD-1 pathway are generally characterized by relatively low response rates and susceptibility to drug resistance during clinical application. Therefore, there is an urgent need for alternative therapeutic strategies to increase the immune response rate. Bispecific antibodies co-targeting PD-1 and PD-L1 may have greater potential to improve the efficacy of the immune checkpoint pathway.
